(2014) PF Emmit Holt to IU

Recommended Posts

I ditto these remarks. Plus the OFFENSE on those Indy Spiece teams ran almostly completely through Blackmon, Bluiett, and Lyle as it should have. No doubt Swanigan is the real deal though. Him making the USA team roster and playing an integral part backs up this notion.

I get both your points. Don't disagree. Just pointing it out.

Spiece didn't run through Caleb 1-4, 1 board,

Rocks didn't run through Emmitt 3-3, 7 boards, led team

I guess I was more saying, if the book is written on Swanigan, maybe there's a chapter or 2 to come from Holt.

Off-topic here, but is there something going on in Assembly Hall tonight? Just saw a snapchat from RoJo on the court with thousands of screaming fans in the stands. Had that IU rap song playing with JB2 dancing haha. Looks awesome!!

A thing for freshmen. Its called spirits and traditions or something like that. They basically teach them the fight song and other chants.

undersized in height, yes, but where the tip of your head is at isn't what matters because you don't touch the ball with your head, you use your hands... Here's some comparisons of height and wingspan here.

Emmitt Holt - height 6-7, wingspan 7-2
Aaron Gordon - height 6-9, wingspan 7-0
Julius Randle - height 6-9, wingspan 7-0
Chris Bosh - height 6-11.5, wingspan 7-3.5
Kevin Love - height 6-9.5, wingspan 6-11.25
Miles Plumlee - height 6-11.75, wingspan 7-0.25

Holt's wingspan makes up for his lack of height easily, and could potentially be just as effective as someone with the same wingspan but 3 inches taller

Especially if we're going to play a lot of zone d. Which would be more effective for this years squad.

We don't even effectively use chants. I sat with Michigan students at a Big Ten Tourney game (a friend made me) and they had a unique and complicated chant for everyone. I was pretty jealous we don't get anything going to that extent.

don't think holt is on campus just yet. he wasn't at that "spirit and tradition" freshman introduction thing in assembly hall this afternoon. Also, don't think we have any official practices yet. but i'm very anxious to hear how he does in his own training and practice as well. Hoping he gives HMP and Davis some good reps.

Holt sounds like he could be THE guy after a few years. I'm really liking our how our 2016 class might look if we don't lose too many players and we have a successful upcoming season.

Maybe I am being overly optimistic--but  I am starting to feel better about our bigs. What we lack in stars and experience, we may make up for in drive and athleticism.   Emmitt, Hanner, Devin, and hopefully Jeremiah can be a solid and serviceable group up front to go along with Troy. If our guards live up to their expectations and the new guards learn how to play college defense quickly, we may have something surprising brewing with what looks to be a three guard offense. We are being overlooked and undervalued this year so maybe that will provide a chip on the shoulder mentality. Holt fits right into that underdog role as it seems he never got the press or pub that some of the other players got but he was a stat sheet stuffer who got the job done.  Every great Indiana team has had someone like that on it. I hope he becomes a big part of the next chapter of IU bball.
