(2014) PF Emmit Holt to IU

Recommended Posts

According to his AAU coach, Holt was the best player on an AAU team that includes Syracuse and ND commits.

I like that.

ehh i feel like coaches always say the best for their players. No arguing at all just saying.

I think hes going to be as good as advertised though.

They did... What was he ranked? Question.. Was he offered by any other BCS programs? How about Piller and April?

To be fair, I'll go ahead and trust the guys actually paid to evaluate his talent.

But yeah interesting perspective.

The would be coach at the prep school in Vermont he was going to attend said he had no doubt Holt would have received 25 high major offers after the exposure he would get at that type of school. That comes from a guy who will never coach him. Very encouraging

Advertised? He was advertised as a mid level talent.. and keep in mind that is in 2015!

i was saying he was advertised by his coach to be the best on the team. Although i usually dont agree with that because almost all coaches talk highly of their players, i think what his coach is saying about Holt will hold true

So you think that a coach that is puffing for his players went out of his way to state that the Syracuse and ND commits on his team were inferior to Holt?

Maybe he said it because Holt really was the best player on his team, including the other two high-major guys.

EDIT: It wasn't his AAU coach or the Vermont Academy coach that said this; it was the Director of the AAU program:

"“He was our most important player,” Jimmy Hart, the director of the Albany City Rocks, told Inside the Hall. “At the end of every game, if someone asked our guys who the MVP of the team was, everyone would vote for Emmitt.”

That type of endorsement stands out, especially when you consider that the City Rocks feature several guys who are already committed to high-major programs like 2015 forwards Tyler Lydon (Syracuse) and Elijah Burns (Notre Dame)."

Quote from his to-be Vermont prep coach:

Alex Popp, who is entering his first season as coach at Vermont Academy after serving as Director of Basketball Operations at Holy Cross, had planned on having Holt in his frontcourt, but called IU’s move to get involved late “smart.”

“He was a hidden gem,” Popp explained. “He didn’t play on the EYBL with City Rocks until after he graduated high school. If he would have been at Vermont (Academy), he certainly would have had some other BCS schools involved, there’s no doubt.

This is a very intriguing addition. It sounds like he was a year away from blowing up. I'm very excited to see what he can do. Basketball4iu has fully backed this kid as well. Can't wait for this season.

HoosierHoops I will say Biggie Swanigan was playing up a year in AAU.  Trey Lyles did the same thing after his Frosh and Soph seasons, and put up similar numbers.  Nobody would question his abilities.  Biggie also grew 2 inches since he played in that and lost 30 pounds.  Very few kids who play up in age in AAU have crazy numbers until they are forced to play with kids their own age unless they are THE talent.  To me, the dude plays like Zach Randolph.  Seen them both.  They have the same body and coordination around the rim that will play anywhere.  He won't be Shaq, but he will be pretty good.

I ditto these remarks. Plus the OFFENSE on those Indy Spiece teams ran almostly completely through Blackmon, Bluiett, and Lyle as it should have. No doubt Swanigan is the real deal though. Him making the USA team roster and playing an integral part backs up this notion.

"he dominated but everything came from the post"

Versatility is good an all, but that's what we need!!!! with extra sauce

Crazy to think that a post player would do most of his work in the post. Those UK fans and their basketball IQ. Lol.
