(2016) SG Rawle Alkins to Arizona

Recommended Posts

It's dumb to think talent alone can't win you a championship.

This is the first time since I've been a member here, that I'm going to refrain from writing a proper response. I'll let your post stand on its own merits.

Deep breath in, deep breath out.....1,2,3....

Sweet 16 and a recruit should not be enough to let crean keep his job. If that's enough for him to keep his job then I'll lose all hope for our program to ever return to National championship contention.

Agreed. To clarify, I'm not advocating on behalf of CTC that he retain his job. I feel that if he meets both of these criteria, the powers that be would be somewhat apprehensive to cut him loose after the season without a "slam dunk" candidate showing heavy interest at minimum.

Note: sorry this should be in another thread. I still feel that another MCDAA coupled with our pre existing class with DD, CuJo + sweet 16 this year makes it hard to pull the trigger. Rawle would be a part of that; hence the diversion. Lol...I did it again.

Never said anything about Crean, why does he have to be brought into every comment?

He's the head coach so he's involved with everything, but that truly wasn't the point of that comment.

Calipari is the best recruiter in the NCAA, clean or not is up for debate, and even he didn't win on talent alone.

I think we have seen this repeat year after year now and his support is gone. The empty seats at AH reflect that.

My point of the original comment is that I don't care how bad a coach is, give him the McDonald all Americans year in and year out they're going to win some championships. Now will Crean ever get close to a team where talent alone will win it for him, no. But damn Dwyane Wade came close, with not a lot of help.
On to the point of Calipari, I would argue that talent alone pretty much did bring him that championship. That and maybe some fortune on their trip to the finals.

I love it. I’m always traveling. We’re playing the top competition in high school basketball. I’m playing the number one player (Josh Jackson) in the country tomorrow. I supposedly the king of the city. He’s the number one player. At Elite 24, we were going at it. We were going at it at Elite 24, it’s going to be tough. He brings it every time. We played Thon Maker. I finished with 30, we got the win that’s the most important thing. So now the crazy thing is, [Orangeville District Secondary School] beat [Prolific Prep], so it’ll be a fifty game tomorrow against Prolific Prep.

On Arizona

I recently added Arizona to my list last night. I spoke with coach [Sean] Miller. They were telling me I’m going to be an impact player right away. I cut them off my list because I felt I wasn’t getting too much attention from them. So I just told them that they stopped recruiting me. Then the coaches came to the game against Thon Maker. I played really well. I finished with about 30 points, 10 rebounds and about five assists. Coach Miller was texting Coach Book [Richardson] “Rawle Alkins is playing like a 15-year NBA veteran.” So I appreciated the compliment, they put me on a three-way call, I was talking to them.

There are times when [Arizona] overly texts me and there are times when they don’t text me at all. So it’s inconsistent. So I told them that I don’t like that. I’m the one that’s going to affect my recruitment. No one is making decisions for me. So if they’re not contacting me, I’m the player that’s supposed to be playing there. I wouldn’t want to go to a school where you don’t really feel like you’re there.

They said they were going to show me so much attention. They want me to take an official visit. But, the thing is I took my PSAT and my SAT but, I’m just waiting on the results. Right now it’s just a waiting game. As soon as I get my results, I’m going to plan [my official visits].
