(2016) SG Rawle Alkins to Arizona

Recommended Posts

‏@Iam_RawleAlkins: Now that Live period is officially over, its time for me to cut down my list.. Will have a Top 10 REAL soon

He can't do any better than a list of 10 schools after all this time and the contact he's had with coaches, unofficial visits etc.?  Give me a break.

I'm going to further rant on this one.  First of all, I do hope we get Rawle; however, if we make his Top 10, our odds are only 10% of landing him vs. making the Top 3 of De'Ron Davis and having a 33% chance (I know they're not the same position players).  Purely from a theoretical standpoint, should the staff  be putting that much time into a possible 10% return on their investment vs. focusing on kids who clearly have an interest in IU and at least consider us in their top 3 or at a minimum top 5?   Additionally, by all accounts Rawle is a 1 and done and I'm not convinced that 1 and dones help our program in the long run, i.e., VonLeh.  Rhetorical question but is a 1 and done playing for the team or are they playing for their position in the next NBA draft?  OK, I'm done.

one and dones do help, just look at the national champions over the past decade. The staff needs to feel it out and decide, are we just a token name in a long list or are we a real contender and prioritize based on that assessment.

I saw the announcement that he has put IU into his top 10.

I am so sick of hearing this kind of stuff. It reminds me of a little girl I knew in second grade who used to list of all her boyfriends in order.

And the worst part is that this treats these guys like prima donnas --- and then that's exactly what they become.

Am I the only one sick of this stuff?

This is not a comment on Mr. Atkins per se, but rather, a comment on the process as it exists at this time.

Welcome! I like your point, his recruitment has seem to been going on for a while now and you'd think he'd be able to make a list shorter than ten teams by now.

Welcome aboard WC Hoosier.  Hope you enjoy the ride.  However, you'll have to learn not to beat around the bush and dance around how you really feel.  Just come right out and tell us.

Welcome to the board!!!

I agree with you. Unfortunately social media, AAU, ESPN, fan forums like these, etc etc have helped shape the entitlement attitude that so many athletes coming out of high school have today. I don't put to much weight into these 'lists'. When it gets down to two, at least there is some excitement. A list of 10 just yells 'Look at me look at me".

I guess my point is, who cares? Until he makes a commitment, what's all the hubbub?

And us, who follow all the stuff? We get what we deserve because we are the ones who make it all go. Our eyeballs on the page, our waiting with bated breath for some high school kid to make a decision, that's what drives the whole equation. If we collectively said, "yeah, who cares tell me when you commit." this stuff would all end.

And all of that is setting aside the point that even when these guys commit, some of them (and it's a significant percentage these days) change anyway. Witness Trey Lyles.

And even if they do actually enroll in school, about half of them don't last two years for one reason or another.

Or you get a guy like Noah Vonleh who seemed to be a rumor, a fact and then gone before you could hardly get to know him.

Do you feel any great loyalty to him? He played part of a year, seemed more focused on self than team and vamoosed.

To my way of thinking, this kind of stuff is close to destroying the college game. And I say it with great sadness as a loyal IU alum.

I mean when you see Cosch K taking a page out of Calipari's playbook and recruiting like Calipari, you know something is seriously wrong.

It's like global warming, basketball style.

Welcome to the best site for IU sports my man.

And yes I agree, for recruits its all about me, me, and oh yeah.. ME! Like stated earlier. Give thanks to social media. It's all about attention and the feeling of importance to these kids.

I don't think it's fair to place all blame on these kids. They are taught to brand and market themselves so that they are more valuable once the NCAA is done making their profits off the kids.
