Sounds like Crean has sold him on IU. As many have pointed out, it seems that the proximity to home factor could be our only downfall at this point. I still think we get him.

ya i mean it said he had a choice between SMU, Oklahoma and IU, i really think we have an 90 percent chance of landing him. I like that he is friends with Juwan Morgan too. I also agree that he may go with Oklahoma because of the home factor.... we shall see

Not as obvious as the Juwan pick---but I like our chances.

At the end of the day--- I think he wants to be at a basketball school with his friend !

Still feel it's going to be IU---especially with the way some of the other dominoes have fallen!  Go IU!

with you a 100 percent, but i think oklahoma may have a good chance too

Some won't want to hear this but if we end up with Shake---a lot of credit has to go to Crean.

Shake obviously put a lot of stock in his conversation with Crean---so much so that he singled it out over and above a lot of the other bells and whistles that come with IU basketball.    Crean sold IU basketball to Shake and in the end we will see if it is enough to break him away from the home area.

I think it is!  Go IU!

I think everybody should give credit to crean when we land a recruit its the coaching they dont like lol

If he could sign in November I'd be really confident. The fact he can't right now is my only real concern. I wonder if Crean has a plan for this, and I'm sure he does. Therefore, I'm cautiously optimistic.

I still wonder what "." means? If I only knew the answer to "."!

Why can't he sign? I'm assuming you mean the oversign rules.... If that's the case we can sign 13 players come signing period. Crean just has to say he has a plan for the number to work. He doesn't even have to say what his plan is, jus that he has one. So yes Shake and anyone else can sign this fall.

If you are referencing something else, then please disregard. :)

Currently, Juwan would be the 13th as a signed commit with Shake being the 14th as a commit, unable to sign until someone transferred.

Just saw this, but according to an article in his local paper, Shake's father passed away a few years back. I believe this has added to the importanve of staying close to home for his family.

On the reverse side, many players have cited Crean as a father figure who has made the program feel like a family. Considering Shake's comments regarding Crean, Coach could turn out to be the pivotal factor in giving Shake and his family comfort in Shake being a far distance from home.

Regardless, I've really liked what I've seen and read about Shake as a player and a person, and it's incredibly sad to find out that he lost his father at such a young age. I'll be cheering for him no matter where he goes, but I hope that he found IU to feel like home and found a mentor in Crean.

It's crazy. One half of recruits think Crean is crazy and creepy (or something like that...maybe not half) and the other half that end up playing for him absolutey love the man and have a Knight-like devotion to him. Weird, really.

Once players and people get to know Crean---they generally like him.  Otherwise, a lot of people engage in snap judgments based on stereotypes like his clapping and saying "I've been thinking about you a lot", etc.

He is recruiting the right kind of players and that is what I am most interested in!  Can't go wrong with high character kids!

I like Crean's recruiting abilities, and I also feel that he recruits good kids and a lot of them have even graduated with a Bachelors in 3 years.  That's impressive.  I just wish we had better balance with our classes and that occasionally we had a roster full of upperclassman that have played together for 3 plus years.

yea that is my point although I think technically Juwan is our 14th and Shake would be our 15th. They can verbal as many as they want but only 14 can be signed. I am pretty sure. Early signing period is in November and many players like to sign at that time.

Interesting thoughts on Shake and his consideration of being close to home. I can understand that. However, IIRC CZ mentioned that also and said that he did not have much time to go home, even though Washington is just over an hour (approximately) from Bloomington, because he was so busy while at IU. CZ doesn't have younger siblings and has both Mom and Dad, so that may be a factor as I understand Shake's Dad has unfortunately passed. Playing high-major basketball is a big commitment at IU and I would think at OU as well. Maybe he and his family would feel more comfortable if he was closer to home, even if he was very busy at OU and couldn't get home much. I'm sure he'll make the right decision for him and his family.

I heard it's pretty important to be there for his younger siblings, and frankly, I think that's probably the right thing to do. IU is most likely the best place for him from a basketball perspective, but hard to argue against him staying home. This board is pretty good about it but this is not a recruitment where if it doesn't go IU's way the kid or CTC should be bashed.

Having said that, and I should know more tonight, but that visit went very well this weekend as reported several places. I'm not sure I'd bet against IU at this point.

Thanks for the update Pap. I wish the NCAA would do something to compensate families for travel.
