Holy Crap! Rickey's gonna be devastated when Rickey finds out about this. I was a kid when he played for the Yankees, he was my 2nd favorite player ever (behind Donnie Baseball). I tried to catch pop ups like he did with his glove smacking his leg after catching it, usually to no avail. Until COVID, the Old Timers played on Old Timers Day at Yankee Stadium and Rickey was still playing as if he was auditioning to get on an MLB team one last time. Man, this sucks.

So, this just happened in Houston -- Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN.

Luis Arraez of the Padres was knocked cold. Was carted off the field after about a 15-minute delay.

Obviously, there was no ill intent -- but what an incredibly stupid play by the Houston kid. If you're a second baseman covering first, you gotta figure out some way to stop -- maybe you slide into the bag. But you can't run through it like that. Good grief.

The announcers were trying to cut him a break, saying it wasn't his fault and it wasn't avoidable. It was totally his fault and was completely avoidable.

IU baseball and Cubs baseball aren’t for the faint of heart.

My wife was a Cubs fan and I’m a cards fan. The only thing we could reason was that somehow the cubs winning the WS somehow broke both franchises because ever since both just are off their rockers

His momentum took him in that direction. Not much he could have done. Unfortunately freak accidents happen. That’s why they are called accidents.

There's plenty he could have done. He could have stopped before getting to the bag. Or he could have slid into it. It was a reckless, stupid play -- not a freak accident. That space belonged to the baserunner. No need for him to cross into it.

Slide into the bag. Ok. Then someone tweaks an ankle. Then someone will be whining that he should have run to the bag.  It was just a bang-bang play.

If you know how to slide, you don't hurt an ankle. These are major leaguers. With a smart second baseman, that injury is easily avoidable.
