The Great S%&* Storm of 2014

Recommended Posts

CTC will need to bring in a few players, hopefully bigs, to cover the quickly shrinking roster that is IUBB. We need upperclassmen to show the new players the ropes, how to practice, when to lift, etc. Hard to do that with a ton of transfers. Do you think we could have used Mo Creek and his outside shot this year???

Fagan & Calomeris being other walk-ons @akmccarthy: Jonny Marlin gone, & other walk-ons likely to follow (VIP): http://bit.ly/1hUZURq  #iubb

now talks of Fagan and Calomeris leaving, im sorry you guys can hold on to the "nothing is going on" but when you have this many people leaving in one day there is something going on

We just had one of the worst seasons in IUBB history. Are you surprised that there's a shakeup? Drop the dead weight, wash the slate clean.

I get we had a terrible season, but it seems like a lot of people, and i know there will be more to come, im really surprised jurkin is still around

The issue for me is why are the walk-ons leaving? They came to school knowing that they wouldn't be getting lots of playing time. Supposedly, these are guys who just wanted to be a part of Indiana basketball. So, I have to ask what changed for them? It might mean absolutely nothing that they are leaving, but it doesn't look very good.

When HMP got into his trouble Dan Dakich did the game and "suggested" something was wrong with the program.  These transfers don't help.  Even though the players involved didn't make a significant impact this year, it still isn't good.  It just seems like the program is in trouble -- stagnant offense, too many of the same type of players, player turnover, etc.  The reality is relying on freshman to come in a make an impact is a loosing strategy (this year is exhibit A).  If they do, then it's a bonus.  But a team needs upperclassmen and balance.  Unfortunately, we are going backwards.

I think the sophomore class can add a lot if they hit the gym and show dedication! I have high hopes for Troy like a Vic type high hope! I think Davis and Stan can show major improvements to...optimistic outlook, but I think we can be a contender again soon!

I had some Marquette fans tell me, when Crean got hired, to expect yearly departures in the program. I, obviously, thought they were upset because they were losing their coach. It is starting to look like they had a legitimate warning. I realize, there are always kids that feel the need to transfer. But, it seems there have been above number transfers, within the Hoosiers program, since Crean has come in.

On another board Marquette fans told us what to expect when Crean was hired.  They had many of the same complaints we have today, and they did warn of the defections.  If we have the same complaints they did it tells me he really hasn't improved much as a coach and if he hasn't he won't take us where we should expect to be, outside of one year he really didn't do that much at Marquette.

We've had 10 since he came here (not including Sampson's players like Basset and Crawford), plus Roth not getting his extra year. Then there was also Guy Marc-Michel who didn't even play. Factoring in players who went pro, the amount of IU players to make it to four years is pathetically low: Jones, Pritchard, technically Roth, Watford, Hulls, Elston, and Sheehey.

Players who left early: Williams, Story, technically Roth, Bawa, Creek, Capobianco, Oladipo, Marc-Michel, Remy, Cody, Austin, Hollowell, Fischer, Vonleh

Austin, Vic, and Roth all graduated (Austin later this year). I wouldn't count them, personally because of that. Maybe Austin, since he has 2 years of eligibility left.

The only other possible transfer I see would be Jurkin, otherwise I think no one else bolts the program.

Now replacing them is another topic, but we need to get a big, an experienced one would be preferred like Lee. I know Crean loves wings, but we really need a PG to back up Yogi (sorry Doc).

I think youre right, i have no idea why they would waste a scholarship on him, i like the kid and wish the best, but why use a scholarship on someone that hasnt played for the past two years.....i also hear fagan and calomeris to leave but who knows, i cant keep track anymore lol.....let me know who leaves tomorrow

This is going to be the longest offseason in history. We could add a few guys that make us a tournament team or we could whiff and hope we stay above .500. I'll never take for granted the feeling of being #1 again. It may be a long time before we see that day again.

The walk ons are leaving because they don't get respect from Crean. The post NIT Selection Show team meeting has rubbed MANY players the wrong way. From what I've heard, Crean was completely out of line

This is the first I've heard of this. What did he do? Anything like the post-Syracuse meltdown he supposedly had last year?
