How much longer until Crean is on the hot seat?

I don't mean we get rid of him, but he should be on the hot seat if they don't make the tournament two years in a row. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way. Maybe my expectations are unrealistic.

He coached well last night. Just didn't understand Hollowell not getting more minutes after a good first half and not fouling to extend the game

I don't think there was a need to foul. It was a one posession game and all we needed was one stop and we didn't get it done.

Let's see the consecutive bad years happen before we discuss his status on the hot seat. This season isn't the time to do so.

I agree with this.  Sure if we went to the NIT in consecutive seasons, any coach at storied program would be feeling the heat.  Apologies to the OP but generally speaking when I see posts of that nature, I think the person is either just assuming we will be this bad again next season and/or secretly pulling for it to happen because he/she doesn't like the current coach.  Noah's decision obviously has a huge impact on the projections for 2014/15 but the players that do return will certainly be a year older, wiser and improved.  Our rotation won't be dominated by freshman and sophomores any longer and that by itself is going to help matters along with bringing in some badly needed perimeter shooting help.

So you were satisfied with last years sweet 16?

I don't think anyone is "satisfied," but to suggest someone be fired just one year after reaching consecutive Sweet 16s, which is no easy task, is insane.

To even suggest someone be on the hot seat just one year after reaching consecutive Sweet 16s, is insane.

I was trying to think of a nice way to say that. Sometimes it's better to just step back and let someone else say it... ;)

I disagree. If we miss(probably will) the tournament this year he should be on it and if we miss again next year I think he should be gone. Call it quick on the trigger or whatever it may be but I want championships not sweet 16 rings.

Hot seat shouldn't even come into play unless next year is bad. It's really hard to win championships, and Sweet 16s aren't abject failures like some make them out to be.

Why come to Indiana if you'll just be run out of town a year or two after consecutive Sweet 16s?

Once he's on the hot seat how long would you give him?

It's a failure in the sense I believe we should have got farther if that makes sense.

Well in the same sense when Devin Robinson chose UF I made the comment I wouldn't go to a school with so much competition at his position when he can get a starting job pretty easy somewhere else. The reply I got was if he's scared of competition I don't want him, so couldn't the same be said for the new coach. If he's scared of that and isn't confident enough in his abilities would you want him?

I'm just curious there's no right or wrong answers to when should a coach be on the hot seat to be honest. I'm not trying to start a full blown argument or anything. Some are willing to give more time and others are quick on the trigger.

Hot seat if the season is bad next year. Gone if we endure a third bad season. Once he's on the hot seat, he's gone quickly. I give him more flexibility because Indiana has been irrelevant in my lifetime.

I think last year was a "failure" as well when you look at expectations, but I don't chalk it up as an abject failure like many have done.

No hot seat until the end of next season. Back to back sweet sixteens and a big ten title do not lead to a hot seat. What this seasons struggles boil down to is last years recruiting class being a flop (outside of yogi of course). This years group is talented but more athletic than basketball talent. Give them a year to adjust to college life and big ten basketball. Add in fresh blood next year and I think we will see a better team.

If he doesn't make the tournament this year, and we have another year like this year next year (I can see it happening with no Vonleh) then it's time IMO

It will be longer than you want it to be, which will make many of us very happy.

Don't forget an outright Big Ten Championship
