What I would really like is for IU to get back to the point where the team doesn't have to recruit projects, period.

He's a "project" in some sense I guess but he's also projected to be a lottery pick in 2016

I really don't know. Anthony Davis was a project at UK. Was a guard his junior year then had a growth spurt. People have trouble seeing beyond their nose sometimes. I don't think he will be as good in college as he will when he is 25, but he is no Bawa and would help this team.

From a recent Scout (non-$) interview of Maker's 'guardian' Ed Smith.

 

Maker has already taken visits to Indiana, Kansas and Kentucky, but according to Smith they don’t currently have any other visited scheduled.

“Those three have been really hard on him,” he said.

 

Indiana received the last visit from Maker and Smith said they were impressed with the make up of the place.

“It was great,” he said. “There’s a feel to the place. I talked to Thon and he was like ‘wow.’ He could feel it.”

 

Maker and Smith took a trip to Kentucky as well. Smith said the professional feel to the Wildcats is what stands out.

“When you go to Rupp, that’s a big time feel,” he said.“The pro side of things,” he added about Kentucky. “Those guys are doing what pros do.”

 

With Kansas, Smith said Bill Self is among the reasons Maker likes the Jayhawks.

“I like the high low situation that they run,” he said. “Bill Self is aggressive and one of those guys that empower a kid.”

 

He nails the difference between IU and UK.

I guess to just clarify my position.  I do not believe Thon is a 1 and Done.  I just don't think 1 and dones score 2 points in an all-star game where defense is shall you say not totally there. 

 

I think he is a project of sorts.  If Thon could get on campus before december I would love it very much.  Because I don't think him or Bryant is going to be going pro unless they are crazy or they are counting on the bobcats drafting another Indiana Big Man.  

 

If we are going to have another player come in I think it should be a PG.

 

Now my ideal situation would be.

 

Thon comes in August.  Murray doesn't reclassify and we make a serious run at him for 2016.  But the key is Thon coming in august.  Last thing we need is a project Big coming in December.

 

If Thon and Bryant don't stay and we can get a stud PG though.  Year after next would be crazy.
