(2016) C Thon Maker

Recommended Posts

I didn't watch the whole thing, and I realize this was an all star type event, but he didn't do a thing to stand out while I was watching. A couple times he showed some potential, but looked like a player still learning the game and has a ways to go yet. Certainly didn't look like a player deserving of the slob fest he's getting on this board. He made one free throw while I was watching, albeit he had pretty good form, but when he was in position for a couple boards he bobbled them or just flat lost them; drove once and lost the ball on the way up.

I would say Meyer is right, good prospect but no where near the hype; more raw than people on this board are wanting to say/admit.

Well maybe that game will make pUKe lay off on his recruitment.

From what I saw. Wasnt impressed. Nothing like I have seen before. He has changed his game to play more of a 5 so that might be why

Honest question, have you seen anything of him aside from Youtube highlights?

He didn't play like a 5 today while he was watching.  He spent most of his time camped out on the perimeter unless it was on defense.

Yes. I have watched a few of his games online

Honestly, that's more than I expected.  I came away from this wildly unimpressed though, better than Hanner but that's because Hanner was absolutely awful when I watched him.  Thon did nothing to stand out though.

I'm not sure I see the year after next being "really special".  We could lose Yogi/Hanner/Zeisloft for sure and probably Troy and maybe Blackmon, so at least we're losing 4 and possibly 5 not counting any transfers; unless we bring in a Calipari type class we're most likely looking at another of those 'rebuilding years' that was supposed to be an aberration.

I think Blackmon, Johnson, Holt and Bryant could make for a very good core.  A solid PG and one very talented Freshman in 16 and we could do alot.

So the key will be keeping Blackmon.

TB didn't do anything to stand out either.. It's an All star game. Any 5 star big man or purely a 5-star can't hurt our team.

We could lose Blackmon though.  If Bryant has a good enough season he could decide to leave, saying he plans on staying 2 years means nothing really and Vonleh said the same thing.

We don't even know for sure what our roster for this coming season will look like, the season following is too far out to even have a clue and we could easily be losing quite a bit.

Really don't see Bryant having a good enough season.  But once again I said the word "Could".  We have enough pieces SG-PF that if we get a decent PG to replace Yogi then that year could be very special.  If Bryant leaves after a year and Crean once again is unprepared for his big man leaving then well that says alot.

I know it's an all star game, I also paid attention to how he looked on the court.  He didn't 'look' anything like how people in this thread are talking about him, he looked very much like a player that has potential but is raw.

He looked much more like what Meyer said about the product not being close to the highlights then the 'OMG Thon' stuff we read in this thread.  I'm not going to put it in stone because it's an all star game, but this combined with what Meyer said after watching him lead me more to believe that he's not the player his highlights show.  Potential, yes.

"Potential" and "Big Man" should be words Hoosier fans run from...meanwhile I think they are a Tom Crean aphrodisiac

I think that game should make IU lay off on his recruitment. He appears to be very much a project, with a long, long way to go.

If the 5 stars are based purely on hype. No.

Remember Perea was a 4 star.

What do they have in common, people learned of them through highlights not games.

You really just compared hanner and thon? Haha. This was an all star game so don't evaluate over this. There's a reason he is in the top 10 even though there is quite a bit of hype.

You're right, but I still think he could be a very good player someday. And maybe a very good player in college.

Yes because as we all know there has never ever been a 5 star who didn't pan out.  Nope recruiting services get it right every single time.

Dude looks lost on a basketball court.  You know who doesn't look like that, guys who can come in and contribute from day 1.

BTW Hanner was 43 in his class.  The lesson there is rankings are imprecise.
