(2016) C Thon Maker

Recommended Posts

Unless he is there for 1.5 years, I don't want him for half a season. Would destroy our team and any chemistry they create early on.

Eh, he's welcome to come and help out in practice and not get much PT.

I don't know how he would only be here for 1 semester. I think it has to be 1.5. But, I've seen talk that he would graduate high school in August which would make him eligible for the 2016 draft. I don't understand why he wouldn't enroll for the full year if he was going to graduate high school early enough to make the 2016 draft.

So does he just wait out and see which of the 4 teams is the most promising for him? Or does he need to declare soon?

Thinking about it, maybe its better this way. We'll have a chance to evaluate our team "as-is" and then if we don't see ourselves as legit contenders mid-season then bring on Thon. As long as he doesn't have to make a decision prior to the season.

However, if this is how it works, I'd imagine the rule will be changed very soon so that players aren't allowed to join programs mid-season. MOST kids can graduate HS in 3 1/2 years so whats to stop every 1-and-done from doing this.

All the same things that stop them from taking a semester off and starting later already? Risk of lack of spots. Risk of low PT. Risk scouts want to see more of you. The narrow differences between top draft spots so needing more time to show you're the best. The fact that plenty of kids expect they'll be done in a year and are wrong. General preference to be playing over not playing?

Agree.  By that time, the rotation has pretty much taken shape, our 3 incoming freshmen have had some acclimation to IU basketball and Division I caliber basketball and the B1G season is around the corner.  Seems like too much possible disruption because I'm sure he expects to see significant playing time.
