(2016) C Thon Maker

Recommended Posts

As long as IU runs an offense where a 5 star big has to get his points off rebounds and running out on the break its gonna be slim pickins for IU. Cal features these guys and that is what these 5 stars like Maker want. If Crean wasnt so arrogant and would change his style a little bit I think we land a Bryant or Maker consistently.

Edit: Seems like the perfect time to hire an assistant that can help implement an offense to feature a big man. Makes sense, right

If I had my pick of an assistant, my thinking would be it should be someone with some defensive mindset background.  Who cares what our offense is, if we can't stop anyone then we aren't going to win many games anyway

Crean had 2 bigs go in the lottery the last 2 years and is on the verge of landing another 5 star. His inability to recruit big men is overblown.

Vonleh was not developed enough to be featured on offense. There's a reason he can't see the court in the NBA. He's still very raw. Zeller was featured though because he was much more skilled.

I hope you're right and we do get Thon, but Crean didn't have a Big in the 3 years before Cody and he never had a good one in his 9 years at Marquette, didn't get one for 2014-2015 and as of today still does not have one. So I could argue that the 2 in 2 years you are referring to are an acception to rule and not the norm.

I can't believe people are following Thon's recruitment this closely. I don't know, just seems like you're setting yourself up for disappointment when theres a lot going on eligibility wise here.

Personally I'm holding out hope for Bryant

we are selfish and want both of these big fellas. If we miss on one no biggie.

I don't expect to get Thon, but I think we've got a good shot at Bryant. Crean also got Luke Fischer who looks like he's going to be pretty good and was a top 50 recruit. If he didn't get homesick he would have been an integral part of this year's team.

Hanner was also a top 50 recruit. He just hasn't developed as expected. Counting Hollowell, Crean has signed 5 top 50 big men in the last 4 years. He just didn't get a big man last year because he was expecting to have Fischer and Devin Davis. He didn't realize he'd need one until January, and by then it was too late

Hollowell should never be counted as a big man. He was wing through and through
