Pretty funny that this year’s roster was never full but next year’s(theoretically) already is.

I would welcome an offseason with a small portal need where we can target a few key positions/players.

I’m sure they’ll have as many roster slots as they want or need. Monden’s a break the glass kid. Sokolov has 1 year to show enough to stay at this level. I’m sure they sold Sherrell on getting him to the League next year and that was certainly part of the Wabbington pitch.  Lindsay’s at his 4th school in 4 years. But a foundation of Burton, Samet, Mustaf and all of the younger guys, we’ll see how it goes with Harris, is what I care about and that feels pretty solid.

They’ll have to rein coaches in on this sort of stuff if they pass the save college whatever act and limit transfers. If it were passed early next year you could see a lot of teams that were hastily put together be stuck with kids. For us that would only really be someone like Sokolov, though.

2 interesting things here: 1) DDV confirming they were holding a scholly for Alexis, sonething we’ve speculated some about around here. Explains why Alexis didn’t sign an exhibit 10 deal with OKC. He was the only guy on their summer league team who wasn’t signed to some kind of contract. He wanted to be pure as Caesar’s wife for the purposes of the legal fight. Feels to this non-lawyer like he got better legal advice than some of these other guys. 2) DDV saying Alexis is young for the class. Turns out that’s true. Sam doesn’t turn 22 until next week.

A slightly different take: Devries said that we held a scholarship open “for a situation like this.”

That’s different than saying we held it open specifically for Sam.

This is just an observation, I am not saying Sokolov will be an all american.  However, in the limited action he was in the game last night, he has some potential.  He is not a stiff and is a very big young man.  Hope he does well at IU.

The curious thing is our 2 recruits plus Sokolov.  Are we rolling with that in our front court?  Hoping Yigi or Sherrill will stay then you have a much better front court with some experience.

Based on very little, my thought is Sherrell is expected to declare. His replacement is Wabbington/Manhertz. Then we'd have Euros 3 deep at Center.  Not a bad plan.

Can't imagine Yigi going anywhere unless he gets a nice lucrative hometown deal in Turkey. Yigi/Wabbington and Sisley/Manhertz should be a nice platoon in the front court.

And portal. We should now have a pretty solid core to keep building on in HS recruiting (2027 going well) and fill ins from portal, instead of wholesale roster reconstruction

Long way to go, but right now, appears we might not even need the portal. Alexis will be done and Sherrell expected to declare, maybe Monden is encouraged to move along. All 3 of those are replaced by incoming Freshman. Sure you have to expect a defection or 2 nowdays, but not a lot of obvious candidates.

Yeah that’s possible— love that we finally are building up a good core of expected returning players and highly regarded / ranked frosh. It’s really early to say but Manhertz looks like he could be really dynamic by next season. I tend to think we’ll be looking at a couple experienced portal additions but will be interesting to see for sure
