You can look at lines without actually betting/even logging in/even having an account.

That may be true about the Fanduel app, but come on.

If you found out your wife has a dating app on her phone, you probably wouldn't buy the excuse of "I'm not dating, just curious what single people are out there".

If you've got a betting app, you are clearly interested in placing bets. Let's just hope he wasn't betting on football.

Well.. it's going to be relatively easy to prove/disprove if he was betting on things he shouldn't be betting on.

I feel as if we are gonna have one surprise retention between Cooper, Ponds, and Carter Smith.

Based on our portal recruiting Smith is the leading candidate.

And would be the biggest keep of the 3, as incredible as Ponds and Coop are. OLine continuity is possibly THE most important thing in the sport.

"Sometimes the best gets are the ones you already have."

Given all of the DBs we've signed, for me it's safe to assume Ponds is a goner. To me he changes the entire defense - playing zone while putting him on an island against the other team's #1 WR is a game changer.

Coop, as good as he is, is far less critical a keep than Smith.

It's an interesting one.  The market for these guys is red hot -- $1.5-2M or something like that for starter level talent?  And not many are in the portal.  I personally don't think it's money given how much our NIL is up and right now Cig can call anyone and get extra cash in about two minutes.

I kinda suspect we may be going the retention/development route?  Whatever we're doing, it's nice I don't need to worry with the staff.  But yea, interesting...

The thing about linemen pay is that you don't just have to pay 1 of them or maybe a couple like with QB, WR maybe RB.  You have double that with the linemen so if you say sure we can pay the newcomer $2M but the guys already in the fold are getting less then you probably have to bump them up too.  I know we have a strong NIL pool of $ but I doubt we can get everyone we want or that $ will not be a limiting factor for some guys.

How? He can't make an account under his name due to his age. He's either using somebody else's account to place bets (proxy betting) or used somebody else's identification to register an account (fraud, identity theft), both are illegal. I don't mind college athletes betting in general, so long as it is not their sport...but an underage person using somebody else's account to place bets illegally shouldn't be condoned.

I don’t see how this goes anywhere tbh. Fanduel has fantasy sports so he can claim he just has it for that. Could even be the truth.

you can download the app for free.. you don't have to enter your age to download the app

So.. no, those aren't the only two options, who condoned what? What has been proven that Nick has done?

  • True.
  • Also true that this app is overwhelmingly used for betting.
  • Also true that without a law enforcement subpoena issued to the betting platform for financial statements, this kind of thing is all but impossible to investigate.
  • Finally, also true that no law enforcement agency is going to initiate an investigation predicated on some 19 year old kid having a FanDuel app on his phone's home screen.

So, this is a giant nothingburger.

Like I said earlier, I don't care if he bets as long as it's not on college football, although him not being 21 is somewhat of a red flag and a whole different issue in of itself from a legal standpoint.

The idea that he has the FanDuel app downloaded on his phone to simply look at spreads however is legitimately the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

... for now, it's a "nothing burger."

Who is to say that won't change and end up being like many other examples of athletes gambling in a detrimental way? The possibility exists.

I won't lose sleep over it but hopefully the staff is on top of what's acceptable or not for guys on the team to do especially as we have a lot of the core culture builders leaving after this year.

No, not clamoring for him to be cut loose. Being realistic about what it means for a college athlete to clearly have FanDuel on their phone. Nothing more, nothing less.

So, your saying you have never been to a PU fan site, LOL.

Which leads back to the original point... WHETHER HE BET ON SOMETHING HE SHOULDN'T HAVE WILL BE EASY TO PROVE....

It won't be because as an underage person, he doesn't have access to a Fanduel account in his name.

It will be incredibly simple... they prove/disprove this stuff in real time.

Even if he didn't bet on college football, you're still missing the bigger point. IT IS ILLEGAL TO BET UNDERAGE AND EVEN MORE ILLEGAL TO USE SOMEONE ELSES ACCOUNT/IDENTITY TO MAKE A BET. Good Lord son.
