Really hope/expect that this investment extends to the rest of the staff. Would love to retain Haines if possible but that is probably a very tall order.

Gotta think if money can keep Haines (and Shanny) around, we’ll do what it takes. There’s going to be a TON of quality head coaching openings this year unfortunately.

Just about the best problem you can have though.

Theoretically you can keep one with money and head coach in waiting status.  Maybe depending how much of a rush they are in.

Uh-oh. We'd better think twice about this.

Finebaum is not on board!

It is wild to me when people get upset about how other people spend their money.  SEC shill clutches his pearls over our spend.  People here were upset we paid so much for Tom Allen's buyout.  People everywhere get upset about paying players as much as we do.

Let the rich people have fun.  It's not your money lol.

The extension was a statement of relevance. It said we are not only here, we are here to stay. The traditional 'good ol' boys' club needs to get used to it. In racing they always say, 'speed costs money, how fast do you want to go'. Apparently, in football, we want to go pretty fast!

Osterman said he expects this contract to include an increase for the staff budget. How much has not come out yet.

Also likely includes more NIL commitments too, but obviously that won’t be laid out in the contract as we know.

Because if we’re going to do it right, then do it right.

Exactly. Failing to give cig what he needs to compete with the big boys would be crazy right now. That would be like a professional team having the next Peyton manning level talent then refusing to get him an offensive line.

Be nice to keep Haines and “Shanny” but Cig himself took a roughly 60% paycut to become a D2 head coach. He was really driven to be a HC.

That being said…from a career standpoint who really knows what motivates both of our coordinators? Everyone assumes, and are probably correct, that they want to become head coaches but who knows?

If we lose Haines or Shanahan it won't be for more money at a different program for the same position.  It will be for a head coaching job, which we won't be able to do much about if that's what they want.

But unlike the Allen era, the school is committed to the program and will pay for a qualified replacement.

Obviously I'd love to keep them for as long as possible; but if they do leave for a head coaching job, I have faith in Cig and IU to fill those positions out successfully.

Yep,

I don’t think we would lose them because of cash but rather a desire to be a HC.

More than just our willingness to pay, up and comers will likely jump at the chance to come here. That wasn't true when DeBoer and Womack left years ago.

I think they were intentionally trying to post a freezing cold take and ended up starting a bonfire.
