Banksyrules Posted February 3, 2025 Posted February 3, 2025 It’s amazing what success does for a school, but I wonder it would take to make a full conversion. Quote
Ryno6284 Posted February 3, 2025 Posted February 3, 2025 25 more years of basketball like we've seen the last 25! Banksyrules 1 Quote
WeeDerkaNaut Posted February 4, 2025 Posted February 4, 2025 If we don't get a serious basketball hire this time around while Coach Cignetti launches the football program to high level play we'll already be a football school. It's always been a dream of mine to see IU become a powerhouse in both sports and I had all but given up on football. Now I'm feeling my passion for our basketball program start to wane while the FB passion waxes. I just pray everyone gets out of the way and lets Dolson and Whitten do their jobs this time around. This past football season was the most fun I have had in IU athletics in a very long time. I can't wait to see what CCC does as an encore. I just don't have the same attachment to IU basketball that I used to have. J34, BBTB, Banksyrules and 3 others 6 Quote

He's already recruiting some really good players, he saw the differences in play from his old level to his current level with the games against Ohio State and ND and he's making the necessary adjustments. ForeverHoosier2 Posted February 4, 2025 Posted February 4, 2025 Given next years schedule, and if basketball strikes out on the likely best candidate, a 2nd CFP appearance is not impossible or improbable. 2 years of CFP appearances in a row turn us into a Football School, not a Cinderella. Home Jersey Posted February 4, 2025 Posted February 4, 2025 My answer: depends entirely on the success of the next basketball hire over first 2-3 years + football next year or two. If we return to the CFP and establish ourselves as more than a one hit wonder, that program will have real momentum. The ideal scenario is we are a 1 year turnaround and next year are top 25 in both, building toward being a powerhouse at both. If it takes the new coach until his 4th year to win big / make a run in March, and we've been good at football that entire time, I think football will have surpassed basketball by that point. If football falters next year, we probably remain perceived as a basketball school and it will only change based on whichever comes first, another trip to the CFP (maybe need to win a few games) or a deep run in March. Basketball will always have sleeping giant potential. I am very hopeful/cautiously optimistic we become a powerhouse at both. Dave from Dayton and Banksyrules 1 1 Quote
Pagoda Posted February 4, 2025 Posted February 4, 2025 I don’t know, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this year’s Spring Game outdraws last year’s Hoosier Hysteria. Of course it doesn’t mean FB is bigger, but it’s another sign of change. IUBB is a sleeping (dormant?) giant, but CFB is way, way bigger than CBB. Winning a big CFB game is honestly more cool than a big CBB win. Cig is an exciting leader… if he keeps it up it may flip in a few years. I don’t care which one is bigger, I just want to be good at both. Banksyrules 1 Quote

I have no desire to be a football or basketball school, I want both and to be damn good in soccer and baseball, too. I will say--- IN HS football is improving rapidly. The 5 powers-- Cathedral, WC, BD, CG, and Carmel are absolutely legit and can play with essentially anyone in the country, but--- Brownsburg, Westfield, Avon, Zionsville, Fishers, HSE, LN and others are DAMN good programs. Lebowski Posted February 4, 2025 Posted February 4, 2025 This is coming from an IUFB faithful, I believe we will be both. IU will always be a basketball school but the 2024 IUFB season gave all the fans a glimpse at what can be for football season. Coaching matters. Demo Posted February 4, 2025 Posted February 4, 2025 I think they can be 1A and 1B, but when IUBB is relevant it’s always gonna be the A side. Hell, we have a 1,000 page IUBB thread on a coach. IUFB isn’t gonna produce a 1,000 page thread on a site like this on any subject. At least no time soon. Quote
Banksyrules Posted February 5, 2025 Author Posted February 5, 2025 Cool thoughts. For clarity both sports can be legit and obviously I have no problem with that. Just posting a specific hypothetical. Quote
