He's not making shots, taking bad shots, and atrocious on defense.

I have zero issue with Woody benching him for the half.

Ride the pine and think about you're going to do differently next half kid.

He wants to stay on the floor, he's gotta play D. Gotta give more effort.

He should understand by now that will help him get going on offense too. Idk either man.

Sounds like Woody came to coach tonight!

His offense was bad. I don’t recall him letting any defenders get past him. Maybe I’m wrong. Just think MM should have been put back in and a set is ran for him to get a layup & get him going.

As was mentioned in the post right after yours, the one that was lost on defense was Tucker.  A couple of times USC got threes up because Tucker was standing in no man's land and ball watching.

Idk, because he's such a liability on D, he's gotta have a short leash in a game like this where it's close and he's not scoring otherwise there's a pretty good chance he shoots you out of it.

Definitely think timing is important here. I thought Mike had a couple chances to get him back in and give him a chance to get things going within the game. He didn’t, and it worked out okay. Hopefully he gets it going to start the 2nd half. A repeat of last game would be nice.

What’s funny is despite giving up layups at will, we are also giving up wide open 3s off of one pass and zero movement because we are cheating our shell a bunch since our ManvMan coverage is so pitiful.

Lol. This team is so flawed. Luckily USC missed a bunch of WIDE open looks.

I noticed him casually jogging down the floor a few times on fast breaks. He's always been that way, just ticks me off. That lineup Woody stuck with is the one that brought us back. He kept them in for a longer period which I'm ok with.

A good coach doesn't let him get 0-7 in the first four minutes and then sit him for 16.  If you were unhappy with his shot selection, get him out at 0-4, coach him up, and get him back in.

The only thing you teach a shooter to do when they are pulled for missing shots is that they shouldn't shoot.

You're right a good coach would pull him quicker and give him instruction.

I don't think that's what it's about at all in this case though. He's getting completely lost on switches, lazy closing out, ball watching, etc. Not giving hustle on the boards from what I saw. Terrible shot selection is just a small part of it. At the PSU game Mack hesitated on a 3 and Woody yelled at him to shoot the damn ball... I think Mack knows by now he has the green light. He needs to understand that doesn't mean he plays no matter what or can slack on defense... it's gotta start on defense for him.

Yep. USC is not good, and this still has the potential for a 20pt W.

This is mostly ugly basketball. Geez. I WILL not be convinced USC is a good team. They are awful. We aren’t much better if at all.

Complete Yuck.

IU came up bad and sloppy.  After falling behind 22-12, the Hoosiers ran off a 25-11 run.  That was the good.  That last minute was horrible.  The made three by USC was defended well and a flukish shot as the shot clock ran down.  Not much you can do about that.  Rice missed a free throw when he is usually automatic and then failure to block out gave up the last bucket.

And shame on Robbie Hummel for thinking IU was executing to get a two-for-one when Rice took his shot with 34 seconds left.  34 seconds won't get you a two for one.  Opponents will run the clock down as much as possible....on a miss, you'll have like 5 seconds.  On a make, clock runs and you won't have time to get a look.

I’ll be the first to admit I’ve been critical of Malik, but I’m more and more convinced him coming off the bench behind Ballo and this team can reach a much higher level. Obviously there’s issues elsewhere, but that 1-2 punch seems like even more of a no brainer after watching how well Ballo plays as the solo 5.
