Rutgers post game thread

Recommended Posts

I’m used to an after game thread.

Since no one started one, thought I would.

Not perfect by any means, but winning without Reneau means other guys stepped up. More outside scoring, which was good.

Don’t know how we could have stopped Bailey. One man team for them.

Gotta be better on the road.

You guys have a good night. A win beats losing.

Rebounding effort was good.  Offensive contributions from a lot of different guys and was good to see the team finally knock down some threes.

It was just a ten point home win against a Rutgers team without Harper but it was a game that IU controlled most of the way and it was accomplished without Reneau being available at all.

Mack Mgbako.  "We were all really scared when Malik went down... It's good that (Malik) is doing good right now." Excellent to hear.

Anthony Lealtor, asked about offensive rebounding: "Early on in the game we kinda noticed they weren't boxing out." Ouch Coach Pickles. Ouch.

Yeah, they couldn’t. When that kid gets his handle cleaned up and a little sharper with his reads he’s a 25-30 pt scorer in the League. When a guy like that is making a bunch of tough looks you better not  be giving up easy looks to the other guys. And they didn’t. I thought that was a solid effort. Also, really hope Reneau’s ok because as much as that game demonstrated that he and Ballo need to split more minutes than they share, it also showed you can’t play Hatton more than niche minutes at that level. He ran out of talent severely last night.

Great to hear MR is apparently doing okay. Hope we don’t rush him back - though I doubt it would happen, I’d love to see him come off the bench for reduced minutes over the next two or three games. Just to see how we play… and if it is successful, whether that’d open any eyes to not having any overlap at all for Reneau / Ballo moving forward. Probably not a coincidence we had one of our highest scoring outputs yesterday without them playing together the entire game. With a healthy Reneau as 6th man… could be dangerous. This roster has plenty of talent.

Hatton is a dream come true as a third string center. He's not afraid to play, he plays hard, and he knows where to be on the court.

But for him to be truly effective? That's only against Minnesota, or maybe Washington or Purdue's non-Kaufman-Renn bigs from here on out.

SIAP.   Leal's shot to end the first half for those of us who didn't watch the game.

I love the reactions of the three referees:

  • The one closest to the play? A standard "shot good" signal.
  • The baseline ref, second closest to the play? No reaction at all - his partner has the call.
  • Referee Jeffrey "High Knees" Anderson, farthest from the play? Big flourish like his guy just hit the Super Bowl game winning field goal.

Yes it forced the team to look for more of a perimeter game, and yes we then got some scoring going

Ballo had a monster game.  Goode’s shot was falling.  We got good Rice this game.  Good game for our so called transfer “mercenaries”.  Not great from Carlyle again.

Probably need to calm down on the Ballo just here for the money noise.  He was everywhere including the floor.
