We need to hire Crean as our OC. He was our last coach where we could shoot worth a damn.

You don’t hire Crean, you hire Buckley. Shot coaching is shockingly underrated given the nature of the game. Refining shot mechanics is never ending. I don’t care if you’re putting up 500 shots a day, if it’s not happening with fastidious attention to detail it’s only so productive. My favorite example is Robert Johnson. Dude fought a lot of funk in his stroke. Had some backward lean and left  drift. Under Buckley he was basically a 40% shooter over 3 years. Under a year with CAM he had 1 game, Iowa or Minny I think, where he made a million 3’s but his stroke deteriorated all year and he was probably a 35% guy without that game. I don’t care how many shots Woody says they’re getting up in the gym. I care about how they’re getting them up and it better not be just some GA rebounding for them.

I enjoy reading these threads the next day nearly as much as watching the game. Very entertaining.

MM played well

We have the talent

We should have won by at least 25

I believe we dropped 3 spots by only winning by 19.

Hopefully were better Sunday

It wasn't the most inspiring performance, but it was the first game of the season. The shooting, defensive lapses and inconsistent rebounding seemed disappointingly familiar, but no doubt Rice is a big upgrade and MM has taken a big step up. Gallo looks to be back and Ballo & Reneau are solid, so there are pieces for success. Tucker will have Freshman moments, but appears to be a star in the making. I'm not worried about Goode, he'll come around. Carlyle on the other hand, hasn't shown me anything. No reason to panic, but so far he looks like a defensive stopper off the bench, at best. Hatton is only a 5-6mpg guy too, so need the frontline to stay healthy.

From Ant Wright.  Our Top 10 most used lineups from last night.

Yeah, continues to show Woodson's insistence on a 2-big lineup, some experimentation (poorly considered, imo) but very little w/o Ballo-Malik. The Rice-Goode-Malik-Bako-Carlyle lineup did get 8 points in 7 poss but Rice was having an off night particularly in the first half (TO's) which undercut it and Goode still isn't hitting shots (have to think that will change, he can shoot).

^ this!! I had only seen the shot doc 2 times for pre-game warmups.  It seemed as if he had an intense focus on studying the players and not chatty with anyone at least while I was watching. I often think of having him back.

More factors than that probably led to dropping 3 spots in Ken Pom.   They could have won by 25 + and still dropped depending on what others did around them.   They could have gained spots by only winning by 19 if their offensive efficiency would have been higher.   16 TO against that team probably dragged it down.    KenPom still uses last years results in his early rankings.   NET doesn’t use any of last years results however those ranking won’t be put out until later in the year with more data and still those first set of rankings are all over the place.     The 19 point win was IUs biggest margin of victory since Dec of 2022 when they played Elon which was the last team IU beat by more the 20
