Interested in most of the same things everyone else is, but #1 for pure curiosity and there is no close 2nd, as the biggest Jakai Newton fan around here by a mile, is where is that kid physically?  Pre-injury he was a Russell Westbrook-level athlete.

I'm second behind you as a Jakai fan and hopeful for his full bore physical return. Kid's a beast,

If we’re a top 20 team, it’s seems to me that the most indispensable player will be Mgbako. He’s our lone pure shooter that can do something more than catch and shoot.

And if he makes that common freshman to sophomore jump? He’s gonna be really really good.

I'm really high on Bako and looking forward to seeing him continue on his second half of season growth/consistency, but Goode's a pretty good shooter...

I agree!  I for one would love to see that become our starting lineup and play together most of the minutes!  Bring Gallo, Cupps, Tucker and Reneau off the bench.

Can we score more points from behind the three point line than we give up from behind the three point line?

No. We could win 30 games and still probably not do that.

I was thinking about this and came to a similar conclusion. I landed on that if we play quite a bit of small ball, unlike woodson teams have in the past, Mgbako becomes our most indispensable player. He gives us the ability at the four to go 4-out and be really effective on offense and still pretty effective on defense and at rebounding. No one else can really slide into that spot like him.

On the other hand, if we play mostly traditional with two bigs, then I don’t think mgbako becomes nearly as indispensable because a lot of guys can fill in at the “three” and give us a decent percentage of what he does.

3 point shooting. By far the biggest question of the team.

It shouldn’t be with this roster. If we aren’t at least about the national avg in both attempts and percentage I don’t even know what to say…

If that happens a lot of them are going to come from Carlyle and Rice.

I would think they’ll get us most of the way there. Goode averaged 4 attempts in 20mpg last year. That was about as many as all our bench mins combined.

It's whether or not Woodson will give them the true green light to let it fly. Woodson makes me super cautious. Honestly, if it Cream coaching this roster, I'd be excited about the offense.

Crean ran a beautiful offense except vs that Syracuse zone. His defense sucked. Woodson hasn’t had a nice free flowing offense yet. His pick and roll alley oop game is nice though I guess. Midrange Woody would have given Crean a heart attack with all those poor analytic attempts.

Sub in Reneau situationally on offensive possessions at the end of half and that is a nearly unstoppable lineup (assuming the two transfers are as good as advertised).

Similarly sub in Galloway and maybe a guy like Cupps or Newton and you have a defensive lineup that is stout in similar situations.

I think you have to go back to Davis’s FF team to find a team with this much depth. Whether it all works together is another story.

That offensive lineup would be able to score pretty much any way imaginable. Defense a different story, but would be fun in doses.

That defensive lineup is interesting. Really hope Mgbako makes strides on defense this year, he was making good progress at the end of last season. If Newton is ready to roll, a more defensive lineup with Cupps/Newton and two of Tucker/Goode/Mgbako with Ballo could be tough. Think Tucker will have a much smoother transition to D1 than Mack did. Can’t wait to see what he can do.
