Do Not Fire Mike Woodson

My hope is that IU has a good season and MW decides to hang it up and retire.  Win win for all.

I guess I don't understand this kind of thinking. If we win the big ten and go to the elite 8 why would you want him to retire. Say we also have Mullins, Sisley, Harrelson and Tiller signed how would him retiring be good for the program. If he leaves then those 4 will re open their recruitment.

He is gonna have to leave at some point, so it may as well be sooner than later.

I got the first dibs on starting the Give Mike Woodson an Extension thread. I call first

I expect a 25+ win Sweet 16 caliber team, so you should have an opportunity. I have heard he is awesome but just needed a roster.  He has arguably the best roster in the conference.  We are going to be great.

Why? You finally get some momentum and just put an end to that is ridiculous.

It would be far better for the program if he stepped down after a successful season. Every coach since Knight (except for Sampson) has been fired and the result was someone else coming in to clean up the mess and getting multiple seasons of built-in excuses. It's not going to be as easy as some people think to land a quality replacement, but our chances go up significantly if we're looking to build off a big year instead of launching yet another rebuild.

The thing is that no matter when we have an opening you will not see an elite HC hired. Just look at the last few years of the hiring process you aren't seeing elite coaches leaving them e job for other blue bloods jobs.

I think that UK made an elite hire. Michigan too.

Will know in a few years. May isn’t going to get 5-6 years though like he did it FAU. Not in this climate.

Listened to the Eye on Indiana podcast or whatever it’s called today. It’s a good Sunshine Pumper podcast. I like a mixture of both sides so I enjoy his enthusiasm.

Anyway, he can’t fathom how all the pundits love or roster, love our recruiting haul, love our ceiling yet still sleep on us as a top 5 or top candidate. Umm, the answer is staring you right between the eyes.

I seriously hope he does prove the doubters wrong this season. And that includes me. Indiana needs to win.

Ant Wright says the same thing, and Ant is far from an Indiana homer.

Neither are a sure grand slam. If IU would have hired Pope this year this board would have went crazy. Also if May wasn't from Indiana he wouldn't be on our short list if candidates.

Oh! I thought you asked for potentially elite new hires, not whether some delusional fans would whine about hiring them. And Dusty May was on the short list for every top job. His IU ties would have been a bonus, not a necessity.

100% agree with this!  You are spot on and it would be the best for the program but we all know he’s too stubborn and bullheaded enough not to step down.

But, it's 1,100 pages of little to no substance except their rally cry......it's like long car trip with your kids constantly saying "are we there yet".

Now they do it just to bump the thread to the top of the board, which they've been warned about by a couple mods.
