I would take Bailey over Fredricko or Miller. I don't understand your fixation with mediocre P5 players

Because Federiko fills a much more obvious role for next years team. And he's a proven commodity in a major conference.

Knecht is a pretty interesting one because iirc most said they thought he could score but not defend in the SEC. But Barnes got him to play pretty solid defense.

Watching a lot of basketball I really don't see many players who are just a great individual defenders. I think most of the really good defensive teams are good because of the defensive scheme. It seems to me most of Devries teams have been pretty good on the defensive end.

He's also a proven anchor in the middle offensively preventing drives and cuts by taking up space by himself and with his defender while Bailey is a threat from outside with his shooting and passing which forces his defender to leave the lane.

The guy who averaged 5.1 pts, 4.5 rebs, and 0.8 blocks a game feel the huge whole. LOL!

He's about as low a usage player imaginable for somebody who logs the type of minutes he does. He doesn't do anything but screen and crash the boards that scores at a 70% clip when he in fact does touch the ball. He was such an anchor that Texas Tech was the 5th most efficient offensive team in the country last year according to KenPom, so you'll have to explain that one to me.

IU has multiple high usage players out on the perimeter as is (DeVries, Wilkerson, Conerway, and Miles) having a 5th in Bailey who is a terrible defender surrounded by a cast not know for defense just seems problematic.

I feel like asking you to understand analytics and advanced metrics would a chore in and of itself Scott, so I'm not going to bother.

LOL! I would hope your great rim protector would block more than 0.8 a game.

Reed Bailey 18.3, 6.1, 0.8

Also I understand the game of basketball and don't need a bunch of nerds telling me who is a better player.

Like I said, a chore.

Bailey’s defensive numbers are really really bad, and that was in a weaker conference. We was one of our earliest pickups, so it’s hindsight, but a defensive-minded center would’ve fit better with the way the rest of the roster has shaped out.

That would have been out of character for DDV/not what we're looking for, though.

It's what BTBers posters, or some want, but it wasn't our priority, clearly.

I think it is much easier to get away with bad defenders in college if the scheme is good. Knecht can't get on the floor the second half of this nba year because he's such a liability on defense but I don't remember it being too big of a deal his year at Tennessee

We might not have great individual defenders but hopefully we can be a good team defense.

I also heard Wilkerson's high school coach talking about Wilkerson being a very good defender and was named the states best defender. He thinks that Wilkerson will be a very good defender at IU

if you watched his interview with the goofs from field of 68, Wilkerson mentioned that he needs to really step up his defense. I really like that about him because he recognizes what his not so strong point of his game is. I find Wilkerson is going to be our biggest one we put under a micro scope.

Did anyone actually watch Reed Bailey play last year?

Federiko would be ok off the bench, I guess.

Yeah, while I understand AH's point, Federiko isn't some high-caliber talent. If coach really wanted that rim-runner, rim-protector, rebounder he should've gone all-in on Bidunga. But it doesn't seem like we did that.

He's a 20-22 mpg piece that doesn't exist on the current roster. I've never made him out to be anything more than that lol. A 22/18 minute split with Federiko/Alexis at the 5 next year perfectly compliments the remaining personnel.

And I am still not so sure he would come here any how given he didn't the first time.....but money does talk!
