It's really sounding like Richard Pitino is the guy at Louisville. That's just an insane move right? I'm not looking at this wrong?

Yikes. Makes me concerned about our next search.

Seeing reports that Alford and Bryce Drew might be in play at Oklahoma State (as well as Niko Medved). Might be kinda interesting to see Bryce coach against big brother a couple times a year.

As for our friend, Steve Alford -- I guess coaches get that itch for what they perceive as bigger and better things, but he hasn't fared all that well at P5 schools. Plus, he's 59, I would think has more than enough money and seems to have a pretty good gig while living near Lake Tahoe.

Man, I'd stay put and enjoy the sunshine. Stillwater, Oklahoma -- meh!

Don’t trust the stuff coming out from Louisville

I think you are right.  They are going to offer a known name a huge amount of money or it will be a surprise candidate like Mark Turgeon.

I saw Goodman saying Richard Pitino has become a legit candidate. But there is so much false information about the UL job.

If Louisville actually hires Richard Pitino...wow. I'm not sure what it would ultimately mean but options for that would include:

-Louisville really believes he can do a good job and he would have the backing of the big money donors because of his last name.

-Louisville tried for sitting high-major coaches and struck out. They thought they had Dusty May and then they did not get him and they were left scrambling and panicked because of the transfer portal and timing and went with a known name.

-Louisville got turned down by so many that they needed to approach someone they knew would take the job and maybe Richard Pitino has a low buyout?

The upshot for IU is that it potentially (not definitively) is a yellow light of caution that it's not easy right now to poach a sitting high-major established coach. No matter how much money you might be willing to offer.

I wonder if conference uncertainty with the ACC is playing a role with the coaching candidate decisions?

Okay, I've decided that I'm going to throw a lifeline to the Louisville AD and give him two names to hire.  Option 1 should be Chris Collins.  I think Collins would a great coach with better resources.  Option 2 would be Tommy Amaker.  There were many that thought he would get the Duke job when coach K retired.  I think Amaker has improved as a coach since the days when he failed at Michigan.

Zagoria says Schertz to UL will not be happening. Zagoria tends to be very credible.

@AdamZagoria

I betcha it ends up being Kelsey, though little Ricky would be way, way funnier.

Fingers crossed for Pitino. I would love that.

ISU folks are saying that Schertz signed something (not an official employment contract, I don’t believe) with SLU that’s concrete enough that UL would have to pay to get him out of it.
