He hated the fact that he would recruit a kid and in the 11th hour, a school would come in and steal the kid.

IUs NIL changes all of that.

That is very true

Theres a reason the buyout is the way that it is. Michigan will likely try changing it after this season though.

What was the main reason?  I just assumed Mich was so desperate to get back on track, that they caved and agreed to it.  May had to know IU will very likely be open this cycle.

He told Dolson it was last year or never

I recall some discussion about Pearl's interest in IU being contingent somewhat on how he did at Auburn... I don't have the energy to dig through the site to try to find it.

I believe it was all of the above. It’s all related to IU. That said if he makes a deep run at Michigan I’m starting to doubt if he’d leave but you never know.

I think that was more speculation than anything.

That makes sense.  If IU doesn’t make a move this year, I can see him staying at Mich for a bit.  The buyout really makes me think he wants to see how this offseason plays out at IU.

If Woodson is fired, I wouldn't be shocked if half of the NIL funds dried up.
Nor would I that money is coming from his rich buddies coordinated through Steve Ferguson who is the Woodson cheerleader. I bet if he stayed they would give him even more next year

I will be making a move. I’d be SHOCKED if they didn’t and IU doesn’t make a DEEP tournament run

People will be happy to contribute to $tevens or May.  Heck, Dolson is probably working more on that than anything.   I personally don’t see NIL budget as an issue whatsoever.

I’m fairly confident they will too.

Ahhh…

no.

Just like with Cig, the right hire will bring in a flood of new NIL. Another reason why it’s Woody’s last year.

Just saying that there are major donors for whom winning basketball games may be the third item on the list for why they are donating. They have other priorities.

Idk if Dusty leaves UM, but we have more NIL, easier transfer rules, and more fan support.  It’s something.

I think he’d absolutely leave Michigan. He did negotiate a smaller buyout in his contract for this possible move I believe. Louisville wanted to hire him but wouldn’t cater to the lower buyout in fear of leaving way too quick. IU will make Brad Stevens a historical offer and then move to Dusty making him a top 10 highest paid coach in the country. Dolson knows they CANNOT miss this time.

Not as much as you might think.

Is this becoming more than it is or do we know he negotiated a lower buyout?  Do we know he passed on L’ville because of the desire for a lower buyout or is this just hopes becoming “facts”?  If those are known strategies and desires in his part it is pretty interesting for sure. Is his buyout higher if he is fired (not that that will happen but it would help support the argument that he did negotiate this intentionally.

From early in the season:

“He didn't understand why Indiana couldn't succeed," said Tyler Harris, executive director of Indiana's collective Hoosier Connect. "All the Indiana fans have scar tissue. The excitement is one thing. Delivering like he has is another."

Since Cignetti arrived, Hoosier Connect has raised six times the money it did a year ago, Harris said.

Thanks. The article was written when they were 8-0. He’s earned any uptick in funding he gets but I don’t think his mere hiring drive much of an uptick, meaning he didn’t have a ton more to work with than Allen had for this season. I think the comments here were about immediate NIL for the next coach and that potentially going down. If the new coach comes in and wins 30 games in his first season, I have no doubt the NIL budget would climb but I question a new coach coming in and immediately getting more than what Woodson got.
