Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Woodson's biggest advantage is ---- he's just a better coach. That's what I find to be not debatable. Those guys, regardless of money, aren't coming here to play for Archie Miller.

Franklin transferred on him. Archie couldn't create an advantage for himself in any way. He was poor at his job.

Phinisee, Gunn, Lander, Fitz, Hunter, Anderson, Duncomb, Forrester, Geronimo, Parker Stewart...  the list goes on and on of just horrible scouting, development, whatever else.

Yes, Miller was bad at almost all aspects of the job. Woodson is definitely better than the very low bar Miller sets.

Our NIL pool is much larger than most other schools, that is literally an objective fact. I'm not saying Archie was a better coach, but Woodson has an advantage there that Archie didn't have. That is not debatable.

Woodson won more with Archie's players than Archie did himself.

Parker Stewart was a Woodson guy.

Woodson has something that Archie never could, the experience in and the contacts with the NBA. He has used that to convince TJD to come back to IU. He used it to recruit JHS. He used it to acquire Ware, and probably Ballo. These guys don't stay at, or come to IU without the thought that Woodson knew what it takes to get to the league.

Frankly, he probably is the only IU coach in my lifetime with the connections to the league that he has. I am not saying that translates to winning games at IU. I am saying it translates to attracting high end talent.

Yes. Just absurdly bad.

Miller --- .536 winning %

Woodson--- .612 winning %

Case closed

Through their first three seasons Archie was at .561 and Woodson was at .612. Going into year four Woodson got his rich buddies to buy him a team. Archie didn’t have that luxury.

Im not even arguing that Archie was a better coach, but let’s not pretend that they were coaching under the same circumstances. IU was at a big disadvantage pre-NIL/transfer portal because our administration wouldn’t let the coaching staff go into the gray area. Archie, and the coaches before him, were fighting an uphill battle in recruiting. Now IU is at a big advantage with NIL. Woodson only winning 61% of his games and 51.7% of his conference games with all the advantages he now has as the IU coach shows how bad of a coach he is.

To be fair, Miller IMO wouldn’t have had donors stepping up to fill the coffers for him.  Woodson does have some support because of his past ties to Indiana.  Miller didn’t have that nor did he have the personality to make up for that.

Archie was literally spoon fed a top 5 recruit who was bought, paid, and steered to IU by Adidas. What gray area are you talking about?

Idc how Woodson created his own advantages. They are coaching under the same circumstances. They are both the HC at Indiana.

It's really silly to compare the two at all.

Guess I don't remember him ever sitting out. Either way, I don't think Stewart is a knock on anyone. He was a good shooter and that's what he did.

I believe he sat one semester at IU.  His father died in November of 2020 shortly before his junior season was to be begin. He decided against playing that year and transferred to IU to start the second semester, I believe.  But that was when Miller was still the coach.

And then got the next 5 star recruit because he loved the first 5 star recruit so much.

Don't forget--- Archie doesn't sniff Romeo if Pitino doesn't get in trouble at UL. Guess who Archie's best player was? Juwan Morgan-- a Crean recruit.

Again, this is silly.

I was more so alluding to the ridiculous assertion made by HF20017 that IU didn't enter into the gray area and that Archie was bad only because his hands were tied. Utter nonsense.

Yay?

Yes - yay!

Still a "yay" if he underperforms with that team but does well enough to keep his job to keep underperforming? That's more likely than him improving as a coach.

It's still about the Jimmies and Joes. This will be by far and away Woodson's deepest and most talented team.
