Fire Coach Woodson Thread

Of course you can win big overnight, but that shouldn’t be the expectation or even the #1 priority year 1. Getting a guy in here who can establish a culture and identify 9-10 guys who all fit that culture should be the #1 priority. And then build from there. If it results in 15 wins, so be it. But we can’t or won’t accept that it make take 2 maybe 3 seasons until the old culture is completely overhauled.

I know what we’ve done the last 25 or so years and it’s never worked.

Winning big shouldn't be the expectation or even number 1 priority?

Fans can't or won't accept it taking 2 maybe 3 seasons to overhaul the culture? Whole new roster/staff should fix that.

The bolded part I somewhat agree with, but don't see why if we have 9-10 talented guys who buy in, why they'd only win 15 games in year 1.

Feels like you don't have an actual point of view aside from being a contrarian.

Curious to hear who you think IU goes after once Stevens and May say no?

AH1971 you're killing all optimism that some of us enjoy!!!  Take your glass half empty posts to the Keep Mike Woodson thread. Kidding, sort of. We want Stevens, we want, May. Etc. Long shot on both, maybe, but there's a general consensus within this specific thread that seem to enjoy the concept of getting a coach we believe in. We're all frustrated, so go get a beer, a bourbon, an edible or whatever tickles your fancy and let's GET BRAD STEVENS. :)

What we have done for 25 years is consistently hire bad coaches.  I predicted all of them would fail miserably at the time they were hired outside of Sampson.  We just need to hire a good coach.  I will give agree with you that outside of Brad all the other potential hires are very risky.  But this is IU so no sense in arguing about coaches we know will never get hired here.

In year 1? No.

Completely overhauling the last 30 years of mediocrity and non-existent culture should be priority #1. If you win 20+ games, that’s a cherry on top. But it shouldn’t be the expectation that starts the seat warmer going into year 2.

You guts act like I’m crazy but we’ve been doing the same **** over and over the last quarter century.

Dude. It just takes one coach. It's like Alabama football. Each coach isn't a slave to the history of the program. Everything is in place to be a monster, all IU needs is the right coach.

You're so dramatic. LOL

Dude?

What is it that we've been doing the same for the past quarter century other than making bad hiring/firing decisions?

What other part of the IU culture needs to change?

Is it the admin? AD? Basketball program? Coaching Staff? Trainers? Players? Fans?

That’s the problem. We determine a coach isn’t good because he doesn’t win overnight and then it’s over from there. Who thought after 3 seasons Crean was going to win two B10 titles and go to three S16’s in a 5 year period? If Crean was hired under normal circumstances he would have been long gone before then.

I'm not sure except that I know that it won't be Wade or Beard. Brownell seems extremely unlikely.

Is there a "Fire Cignetti" thread on the football board? Just curious.

If you win, the fans will support you.

If you lose, they'll complain. It's very simple.

If Cignetti starts losing, people will turn on him, especially with his cockniness. People see it as confidence and swagger now. They'll like it a lot less if the football team is 2-9. Such is the life of a coach...

Don't you dare put that out there. Take it back!

We’ve never given a coach the chance to build, fail, learn, and then grow. We mock Purdue for many things, but look at Matt Painter.

He struggled his first couple seasons, put together 3 very solid seasons, then went through a 4 year stretch with no tournament wins and a dead last place finish in the B10 to building one of the most consistent programs in the country. But we have no interest in doing that.

@go iu bb had an excellent suggestion.  Move all the Wade, Brownell, etc. convo to the General Coach Candidate News thread.  Woody's getting angry that he hasn't been the major topic of conversation for the past several hours.

I agree!  I see I didn’t miss much today while I was at work!

Crean says hello. You're talking out your a**.

There's another thread for talking about other coaches who may or may not become the next coach at IU. This topic is about firing Woodson.

Crean’s first 8-9 years very similar to Painter’s first 8-9 years. And Painter didn’t inherent a complete rebuild. Not talking out of my @$$ at all.

Gotcha. That's a more lucid POV...

Crean's tenure is an interesting one to look at... 9 seasons, longest tenure post-Knight.

Some people think he should've been gone sooner, others later.

Do think there's some merit to the idea he could've gotten one more season to turn it around coming off 2 B10 titles in a 5 year period.

But he had no momentum... it made more sense to cut ties... he clearly wasn't the guy.

Do you think we'd be better off if we had kept Crean and just erased the Archie era from the history books? Assume not...

Or do you think Archie should've had more time and if so, how much more?

People are so touchy on this board!  I say why don’t we wait until we find out who the actual candidates are before we determine who will get hired and won’t!  Sounds like a  plan to me!

Agreed... and we still have a incompetent, entitled and arrogant man in the coaching position... let's start with getting him fired, first and foremost.
