I'm old and the memory ain't what it used to be but I thought Asst. Coach Mike Roberts was really high on Smith but Archie didn't think he could play B1G defense.  Archie was fired; Woody was hired March '21 and Smith committed to PUke in April '21.

Smith was offered by Purdue a month after we hired Woodson and committed just 3 days later. I think it's fair to wonder if Woodson even knew Smith existed.

He committed to PU after Woodson was hired. Woodson had time to look at him and offer. He didn't. 

I did mention Miller in my post, so I'm aware that he missed on him too. Miller is no longer IU's coach, so that is moot.

Correct. I urged him to offer Smith and he refused.   When you have an instate kid that grew up wanting to be a Hoosier and you don’t offer him and he becomes one of the best players in the conference, you end up replacing your coach every 4 years

I'm not going to hold Smith's commitment to PUke against Woody.  Basically just a 1-month window for Woody to work and he had to first find the best source in Bloomington for fine cigars and sample Oliver Winery's product.  Geez guys, cut the guy some slack.   lol

Of If I remember correctly Smith’s family told IU ahead of time that if Purdue offers they were going to take it. Trying to get IU to offer. I remember Criss Byers saying IU should be all over this kid.

We all realllllyyyyy dislike Woodson but Fife did some behind the scenes stuff at IU prior to even IU playing their first game with him as an assistant coach that honestly could have led to his dismissal.  Probably would have if he hadn't been an IU grad.

Clearly a huge miss but let’s face it, he wouldn’t have flourished under our coaching staff. We haven’t had a breakout talent in a longtime. Need a new staff to fix this.

Not a geographic location, but put a copy of Woodson's contract on Armond Hill's napping chair.
