Tennessee in-home visit today according to Volnation

I read on there that Knecht is shutting down his recruitment and will pick between Oregon and Tennessee.  Returning players would have to make a massive leap to get the scoring we need, so that's not good.

I feel more and more that Ledlum goes to Tennessee.

Tennessee has 1 more available scholarship, since Gainey has taken the 12th spot (was speculated by UT fans he was going to be a walk-on)

I'm thinking Knecht to Oregon so Ledlum would be their last spot.

Could be a Hail Mary on Tennessee's part, but I've seen enough IU recruiting battles over the years to know how this usually ends.

They'd have to be desperate then IMO, because that's a long way to go.

Honestly, nobody knows.  Ledlum has been in the portal a long time and has been very quiet about everything.  But I also know that Tennessee wouldn't be doing an at home visit right now if he had already decided to commit to Tennessee.

Been awfully quiet on the Indiana side of things for a long time.  They obviously know more than we do so I'm still thinking there is a plan there.  We clearly are adding at least 2 more and probably 3 somehow but man, it's going to get interesting here eventually.

Still think Ledlum is likely for us.  I think......

Maybe the staff is banking on Galloway and Gunn more than we think?  I mean obviously, Galloway was always going to play a bunch.  And Gunn and Banks minutes will go up.

Been an interesting portaling season so far in our approach.

Well, our staff went to Minneapolis for an in-home with Jamison Battle just so he could choose to play for the 13th place Buckeyes instead.

I personally preferred him over Ledlum.  Seems the staff didn't but were obviously interested.  Wondering if a big name pops somewhere, somehow that isn't a target yet.  Almost seems like that is the best hope for us if Knecht is truly out.

I still think we need a scorer.  Otherwise Galloway would have to make another jump plus we'd need a big jump from Banks and a massive leap from Gunn.

  1. I greatly prefer Ledlum to Battle.
  2. Best case scenario is if the staff, seeing Gunn and Banks on a daily basis,  knows that they've got at least one effective home-developed rotation player between them.
  3. I'm a big fan of Wayne's use of the verb "portaling."

Agree. With the NFL draft on the horizon you see people post "team needs". I feel IU filled a majority of their "portal needs"..especially if Ledlum commits....just didn't fill the biggest one IMO. I know we all talk about CJ Gunn but honestly I'm excited for Gabe Cupps. I don't know how much playing time next year with X and Galloway ahead of him. I still see him as a 3 year starter here. Unfortunatly, I don't think X, Galloway, Cupps, Gunn, Newton is an above average backcourt to compete at a national level. I'm for sure high on the potential of Cupps and Newton.

My guess is this is a hail mary last attempt..would be stunned if it's not IU. As other posters have said, IU went to see Battle before he chose OSU.

I'm starting to think Ledlum is never going to announce and turn pro to play in Antarctica

Yeah, have to say it's hard to stay patient on this.  He did enter the portal very early, waiting a month before taking any official visits then took three within a week.  I don't understand him taking an at home visit from Tennessee after just visiting there for two days four days ago.  Maybe Tennessee feels that Knecht is going to Oregon and therefore they need Ledlum, but Tennessee is pretty set either way given they have 11 scholarship positions filled with talent already.  There are already going to be some players at UT unhappy next year.

Hope Ledlum comes to IU, but if not....next man up.  Hopefully the staff has been in touch with Quincy Guerrier (Oregon, just hit the portal).  Big wing, shoots the three okay.  Been a 10 and 6 guy over four years at Syracuse and Oregon and put up a 14 and 8 year in 2020-1 at Syracuse.

1. I get it.  Intangibles, maybe versatility, defense, etc.  But Battle can shoot the rock.  Last year his numbers dropped because of how awful Minnesota was and he was shooting from the moon but he can be dangerous on the right team.  I felt like he fit our needs as a shot maker really well.  Ledlum provides some different stuff and hopefully his shooting numbers are down for the same reasons but I'm less convinced.  also seems to be a question if we get him as Tenn and Barnes aren't afraid of NIL opportunities in a recruitment.  They do their thang.

Our basketball team will easily have as much or more NIL than UT's basketball team.

I like Ledlum over Battle because of leadership qualities, and because Ledlum can put the ball on the floor and get to the basket, and can offensive rebound. Now that we are going to have our bigs play more on the perimeter, having multiple options that can use a high screen and play with the ball in their hands is critical.
