To me it is he is an upperclassman now and we need to get older. It is also why we are having meltdowns, lack of leadership etc. it is why fans need to chill on running off Gunn as he may well be Tamar next year.

People can say it is ridiculous for Woody to call out the seniors (to be far, doesn’t matter what he says for some and Bobby did it all the time) but he is right. We are a very young team by contribution.

Again, you’re implying that is was everybody but Tamar’s decision to transfer. Why?

So you believe Bates would have all of a sudden produced this year with this scheme and roster? Possible but I doubt it honestly.

My understanding was because we didn't up the NIL funds for him to level he wanted? Did something else come up?

No. Just seems to be part of the “blame the fans” schtick. Word is he asked for an outrageous increase in NIL funds. Now that he’s had some nice numbers for the last place Missouri Tigers the revisionist history is taking hold.

If I remember correctly, the speculation was that it had a lot to do with being closer to his daughter , and wanting more NIL funds for the financial needs of being a father.

That's what was suggested here on BTB. Whether or not that was true, who knows?

Johnell Davis from Gary.  Look at his stats.  Where was IU during this recruitment?  He’s a steely eyed monster at FAU!  Why? Because he drops shots.

They recruited and landed 2 other in-state guards that were ranked in the top 150 with one of those being Mr Basketball.  I could imagine this board if IU  passed on them and recruited a non ranked in state kid that had offers from Northern Illinois, Kent St and FAU.   Clearly Davis has turned out to be the better prospect than the other 2.    Might have been college coaches didn’t get to see him enough in recruiting due to the COVID years.   A lot of kids got mis evaluated because of that.

Agreed. Someone is gonna take that chance and be rewarded for it.

Is IU an easy job? No

Is any B1G job easy? No

Does Indiana NOW have the resources to compete at the top of the conference? Yes.

Are the fans the reason we aren’t good? NO

Were the same fans the reason we had a decent year just last year? Indifference

Once the excuse making happens it’s over.

Is Woody a bad coach? No

Is Woody’s approach to coaching College basketball in 2024 less than ideal? Yes

Has Woody absolutely crapped the bed this year? Yep

Does Woody deserve another year? Probably.

Can Woody get a Indiana to a second weekend? Sure, maybe. But he didn’t do it with 2 NBA guys, and his evaluation in the portal so far leaves a lot to be desired.

I’m over it all, but I realize we probably have to roll the dice next year and pray.

Scott - I have had my own disagreements with you before but got to tell you, I had this exact conversation with someone the other day.

I would hope the more rational yet frustrated fans will think about this. Some will say “this is our strength” - maybe. But it is the biggest constant through multiple coaches and admins.

Goodman said this last time and it ticked everyone off. He said “IU fans are completely unrealistic and don’t understand where they stand now. Whoever they hire, there better give them real time.”

Regardless of what someone who I refuse to engage with says - every player is on social media. Every recruit is. When a narrative of anger develops. When every tweet is about firing Woody. Recruits see it and players feel it. Don’t kid yourself that some visit boards too. That doesn’t make them “soft” - it makes them want to avoid it and go to a better option and be a hero.

If we lose Liam, Queen etc. it won’t be because they are not wanting to play for Woody or work through the bad. Players don’t care about bad seasons. They always think they can be the answer. But they don’t want to play in an environment where it is becoming a common thing to boo our players at home etc.

now everyone roast me for being soft too haha

I think the reason that Queen didn't announce last week during the tournament is because he saw the fans turning on Woodson. Is it a coincidence that he was going to commit but changed his mind to he same time IU started to struggle

Johnell Davis wasn't even a starter at a very mid FAU team his freshman and sophomore years.  If he were at IU, we'd have heard two years on BTownbanners about the scholarship we wasted on him.

Somethings never change

Back to dodging accountability and blaming fans. Fun!

Back to firmly following the “do as I say not as I do” mentality. Good stuff!

Is this the thread created for posters to vent so snowflakes wouldn’t have their feelings hurt or is there another thread for that?

I’ve said for years that the first couple seasons had little to do with results and a lot to do with establishing culture. That wasn’t done so we are where we are. The good part of having talented players is sometimes they put it together, despite the staff, to compete. This mostly happens in the Hall where those same terrible fans show up for games to watch an undisciplined team.

What does that have to do with it because it was illegal when he committed the violations

It just shows how minor the excessive phone calls really was and yet we gave ourselves a much tougher penalty than the NCAA would have.  Some say we gave our own selves the death penalty.

Let's say a guy in Colorado was arrested and sent to prison for selling Marijuana. It is his 2nd offense so the send him to prison. Today Marijuana is legal so should that guys record be cleared. Should he automatically get let out because it is legal now.

Not to mention he played for a very small 1a school in the region

As plausible as any other reason

Just another example of catering to a recruit. “Don’t be mean to the coach because we might lose a recruit”

Culture, culture, culture people. We have have a very soft and fostering one.
