IU instances yes, but Jordan and Hakeem were 3 year players

Just not often you see those guys sticking around that long anymore. If you can play in the league, these guy go now

Magic was 3 years, Jimmy Jackson 2

Yep. If only Sampson cared about academics and culture of IU's program, though. He is one of the best bball minds and on-floor X's and O's coaches out there. Had us at 24-4 when Sampson-gate broke. Obviously has raised UH to an elite bball program. And both the NCAA (was after Sampson bc he escaped them when they went after Okla) and our Administration overreacted to what were just phone call violations that the very next year were no longer even NCAA infractions. What a joke. But he left our academics in a bad mess and the drug culture and failing grades was completely out of control, yes he had to go, but man it's a shame, otherwise such a good coach.

Davis wasn't at the level to coach IU, that was a player driven decision (and ultimatum) out of loyalty to him/RMK. That sums it up.

Crean was a really good interim coach. Completely rebuilt the program after having to start walkons and baseball players. Don't think that gets enough credit, he landed Cody and Yogi, identified and brought in Vic, and took us to the longest #1 ranked team in the country, B1G championships (first in like 20 years) and SW16s. We didn't land the guy (like a Stevens or Donovan) who could have carried us forward to a consistent elite program again, but then just finding a good coach after the Sampson dismissal and dumpster fire that left the program in was a legitimately solid step.

So the program made some bad decisions after RMK, maybe the Admin shouldn't have gone along with the players after his dismissal, but then not doing so also would've fanned the flames that were already there surrounding RMK's dismissal (I mean people not around at the time just can't understand how crazy that whole situation was) and itself created a dumpster fire with en masse player departures.

The only really bad decision I see (my op) during this time was Miller, and that's also really just hindsight, he was well regarded at the time, and then the Admin did move on, as it should have, early when it was pretty clear he was not right for the U.

Hope Woodson takes us up the next step of the ladder.

If anything we keep coaches too long. Who was responsible for looking at Crean and Davis and giving them new contracts? That’s just incompetence that other successful programs don’t suffer.

Simply put: other programs are more competent and better at basketball—top to bottom—than IU.  Jerseys, social media, whatever…It’s all symptoms from the same disease. Fixing one doesn’t fix the program.

Just look at the whole Archie/Brad Stevens fiasco. That doesn’t happen to programs with top-notch leadership. We’re probably pretty lucky a guy like Woody was available to come in and bring some stability.

Brad Stevens isn't even coaching any longer.  Don't think he was ever coming.  Billy Donavan, another board favorite, is sucking it up in Chicago.  Woody is the Savior.  (or not, we'll see).

What? He said interest and demand goes up after winning a NC. Based on fan travel to Kansas. And myself in vegas, I’d say demand is pretty high at IU rn

You can’t be the naive.  When a team, any team, wins a national championship every Tom Dick and Harry comes out of the woodwork and jumps on the bandwagon.  Demand for their stuff skyrockets. That may explain the inventory the lady saw.

And if you’re correct, that demand is high for IU, then everything you have been claiming in this thread is bogus.  Indiana must be doing something right if people are traveling all over, packing arenas, to see them.  Maybe that’s why you can’t find a 1/4 zip.  They’re all sold out.

What I’ve been saying this whole time is interest in IU is super high, IU is failing miserably at merchandising to capitalize. More sales = more NIL money to buy players

Amanda is awesome for all she does for the HTP but I thought the post was kind of off and I didn't agree with it. Assembly Hall will be rocking if this team wins. I've been to lots of big sporting events (AFC Championship game, PGA Championship, Big Ten Tournament, MLB Playoff game). By far the coolest was UNC-IU a few weeks ago. No other venue in college basketball can top that. Not up for a debate. Now, against bad teams the place is usually dead but it was rocking for the opener against Morehead State. I wish they had programs again or some kind of roster to pass out for fans. Have no clue who is who for the other team. Not saying IU can't improve things, I think they can. But still, that place is rocking when we have a respectable team. We haven't had many in the last 20-25 years.

So let me get this straight.  Our basketball program isn't elite because our merchandising department is woefully lacking?

It's one of the reasons.

I will say, the best place to probably go for gear right now is Fanatics.

It's been that way for a decade.  At least for IU stuff.

I have been watching sports for over 50 years and I see the top football programs still wearing the same uniforms. Alabama, PSU, Georgia, USC, ND,OSU, Clemson, LSU. A couple of them might have an alternative but they pretty much had the same uniforms.

Yes most definitely that uniforms doesn't matter

What!?!

These teams wear ENDLESS alternate uniforms. You cannot be serious. Lots of alternates from this group.

Most definitely uniforms matter. Kind of why they wear them on their recruiting visits.

Sure, but don't forget they are the National Champions.  Interest goes way way way up when that happens and thus the demand for stuff.

Those GameDay pamphlets are pretty cool though. Those are small things. Things Indiana could absolutely do. But GameDay experience isn't part of the agenda. The game should be a massive event. Last game I went to, it was closer to going to a varsity HS game rather than a men's Big Ten matchup.

We aren't talking about football. Different game. Football jerseys in general don't really change a ton.
