LIHoosier Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 The basketball usually isn't fun to watch, but for the Knicks and Nets I get to listen to Mike Breen and Ian Eagle. Walt Frazier is great with Mike but the rotating cast the Nets have for Ian isn't particularly good. College-wise, the play by play is whatever but the analysts are almost always grating regardless of channel. Fisch is great, I wish he had someone with a personality cuz listening to Suhr the younger is like watching paint dry. 1 hour ago, IU Scott said: I like Fisch for basketball but I think he is terrible at football announcing Have you watched what he has to commentate on? woodenshoemanHoosierfan Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 What bugs me the most is when broadcaster guy and color guy go off on a tangent that has nothing to do with what is happening in real time in front of them.Like Walton!Sent from my SM-S908U using Tapatalk Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 I enjoy Dakich. I don’t mind the rants. He isn’t always right but he’s confident, lol. He’s also energetic. Bennetti does a good job. Hummel is solid, just boring. Bilas is annoying AF to me. His arrogance. His ESPN/Duke/UNC/ACC lovefest. Just don’t like him. He’s smart and actually knows his basketball really well just the ESPN slobber fest is nauseating. Walton is kinda fun for a game I have medium interest in, but he’s way out in his own planet. Demo Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 Thinking solely in terms of current cbb: Play by Play- Shulman, Harlan, Catalon Analyst- Bilas, Hummel, Dykes Unpopular like- Shon Morris. The dude’s not scintillating, but his analysis is rock solid and he seems like a good dude to just sit around and talk ball with. Side note- He’s really lost his fastball, but I will always, always love Bill Raftery. Quote
Stuhoo Posted October 23, 2022 Author Posted October 23, 2022 Against the grain? I like Clark Kellogg and Ol’ Len Elmore. If I’m into the actual game I hate Walton. I used to despise Bardo and kinda still do, but I can begrudgingly admit he’s improved and no longer always bugs the **** out of me. He has been replaced as the “Oh god no!” draw by Donny Marshall. Hummel is fantastic. Dykes is overrated. Shon Morris adds little. When Gus or Shulman is in Assembly it just feels big time. Raftery and Vitale are way past their prime but Raftery is a medical marvel cause he’s still pretty good. The best ever? Jim ******* Durham. Hovadipo 1 Quote
Uspshoosier Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 Besides the ones people have mentioned Ian eagle has been really good for a long time, Spero dedes is underrated for play by play for cbs. Spanarkel and Bonner for analyst. Plenty of other good ones as well. Avery Johnson and Steve Lappas will get moved to the muted TVs as soon as they show up on my tv. Quote

My problem with him, and I used to enjoy him, is that he over uses his tag lines. I don't want to hear "get those puppies organized" a thousand times a game. A little variety goes a long way for me. I know it's all persona and having a readily identifiable way of speaking, but why get trapped into just that one thing. Quote

For me it is so hard to follow what is actually going on in the game. Sometimes you.can't tell if it is a 3 yard gain or a 20 yard gain. Quote

I remember in 89 Jackson and Vitale did 3 straight Saturday or Sunday IU game in 1989 all at home. Each game came down to Jay Edwards hitting late shots and two of them were game winners. The other was when Anderson from UI hit a 35 ft. shot at the buzzer. Quote
