Class of '66 Old Fart

(2024) - PG Boogie Fland to Kentucky

Recommended Posts

To land multiple 5 stars in the fall, I think we're gonna need at least one S16 run under our belt. To ngw's point... this program is building back from a deep hole. Feels similar in a way to Brian Kelly resurrecting ND football. You gotta produce on the field/court to land a deep and talented class consistently year after year. Final thought of the night.

Looking forward to Boogie shocking the world tomorrow lol

It's one player.  We have so and so on the roster.  We say these every year then another season comes and goes and where we didn't have the horses we needed.

McNeeley is a great addition.  IU has also shown over the years we can pull a 5* without stacking the talent needed.

Yep.  At the end of the season the talk was about how much we were losing and how bad we could be in 2023-24.  Today's basketball landscape isn't yesterdays.  The portal opens up so much, not only in portal players but in decommits as well.

In an effort to be positive and realistic right now, it’s worth mentioning that IU is still in great shape for spring 2024 and 2025.

If this development holds true, getting MM and Ware to the NBA as 1st round picks becomes extremely important. That would be 4 players in 2 years, and spring 2024/2025 would have more evidence that Woodson and staff get their top recruits into the NBA “on schedule.”

The culture has a great foundation, and the track record can only improve. Win more, send these two guys to the NBA, develop Malik, Gunn, and Banks to “future NBA players” and more flashy recruits will choose the Hoosiers.

It’s a setback but not an insurmountable one in the grand scheme of things.

We have the NIL to pull it off. Gotta find the guys. With hardly any left it’s portalszn. I’m telling y’all McNeeley was expecting this 3 man class as well. Maybe we still get Queen. I imagine we can find a Boogie type talent in the transfer portal too but we better build a top 25 preseason team. We are trying to build a top 10 team just can’t quite get the horses. I honestly kinda feel bad for McNeeley in this. Recruited 2 guys during his own commitment.

And to make runs you typically need the talent. Then it's kind if a chicken or egg scenario. So you need to have an outstanding coach that can make the team better than it's pieces long enough, or a top notch recruiter that can land the talent to carry them.

There is zero chance McNeely backs out. Everyone nationally has been saying all along IU would win the McNeely recruitment and lose the others. McNeely knew he might be going at this alone and that has been a real possibility based on everyone's sentiment. McNeely may have committed HOPING to bag the other two but he knew it was possible he might be only one.

Don't let losing out on Boogie give you that irrational thought.

Don't feel bad for a 5* kid who made a choice where he KNEW he might be alone for now.

McNeely is not backing out. I swear every bit of bad news IU gets leads to our fans thinking program is doomed and every bit of good news will lead to banner 6. The truth lies in between. Things are never as good or as bad as they seem in the moment and everyone for good reason is acting emotionally right now.

I think Woodson can get the most out of this roster. If we can show recruits you can win here and go on deep runs, we'll be very tough to recruit against. Have total confidence that by March, Woodson gets the most out of Ware.

I really like the big three of Ware, Mgbako, and X this season. If Gallo stays close to same percentage on higher volume and CJ shows a big improvement from last year, we can be really dangerous.

I'm honestly too excited for this year to be worried/bummed about next seasons roster. With the portal and spring being fruitful under this staff, this isn't the end of the world. For sure will sting though if he goes to pUKe

No one including me has any clue what Liam was 'expecting'. I am just using logic based on what has been happening all fall.

And here we go again. always you and Brass.

let me clarify, I was told prior to Trilly, maybe 30 minutes, it was UK. Can send you screenshot for my interrogation.  Didn’t want to believe it. It made zero sense with everything else. Still doesn’t honestly. Then Trilly etc.
why is it a joke they do that? It is supposed to be a prediction based on knowledge they have and it is their freaking job. you should be able to look at their success rate and see how connected they are. They all changed them within five minutes of Trilly. So unless you think a back channel SOS went out directly from Boogie to all Rivals and 24/7 to ruin his announcement, yeah, they changed it based on Trilly to help their stats.
my guess (no knowledge, just logic) - he used us. We were last visit, we lined up NiL this week, etc. he took that information to Cal and Cal said I will match or outdo any offer. staff was confident because we were in communication but he was just using it to better his UK deal. Cal then says, here is the offer but you have to take it right now. You hang up and think, it is gone. Seen it in sales many times.  That is how you can still be little slimmy in NiL era. Pressure the hell out of a kid.
hey, couple guys flipped same day in last 2 months. Could always go back with one over the top offer. I have used that to success in these sales type situations before but Woodson has said he doesn’t want guys like that so probably done.
Sounds like it was always Kentucky were we just used as leverage.

I still have reservations on Woodson, and I've said before you don't hire someone his age expecting a long rebuild.

You don't want to be in a position of having to count on Spring.  You don't know what will be available but you also don't know what you'll lose.

Few things:

1.  Can we wait for the pick before we all lose our ****?

2.  I know people have "info" and that is all well and good but I think almost everyone's info up until the point where a kid reaches out to a school and says "I am going to pick you..." is pretty much just conjecture.  Some dude posts gifs and memes on Twitter (X) and has people flipping out one way or the other.  Just assume that no one knows anything and stop getting your hopes up based on internet speculation.

I listened to his and his families interviews. He wants to play in the NBA and he wants to have a chance at playing for a national title. His uncle/grandfather was saying a queen, McNeeley, Givens/Fland class should make us a top 10 team.

I’m not saying he is going to decommit or anything crazy like that, but he committed with the notion we are building a top 10 team. And maybe we will.

When Trilly made that tweet about New York Guard(s) having dramatic recruitments, it was pluralized for a reason. That was the night, he knew. And same with his protege Noah.

Also, Cal had just visited Boogie in New York. Woody was about to go and the camp announced no more visits before he came the last time. The signs have been there.

Agreed. Yea leaves were UK all along. I don’t buy for a minute that we were leading going onto this week.
