Preseason polls mean jacksh$t.
couldn’t care less and what’s the point anyway— anyone who has actually followed DeVries’ coaching career can see he can coach, now it’s about how he builds the program, recruiting and portal.

Absolutely. My view in a nutshell... DDV was a big part of Creighton becoming what it is, from 2001-2018 with Altman and McDermott. Had very good success at Drake. WVU season was hampered with injuries but all things considered they were still solid and snubbed from the tournament. So he joins us with a year of learnings as a P5 HC. He's 50 years old. I think his best days as a coach are still ahead of him, looking forward to supporting his program. I like the way he carries himself and the preseason flow of events seems to have energized / re-engaged folks.

No coaches would. It gets handed off to a grad assistant. Same as their votes in the actual coaches poll.

Do you listen to Parrish and Norlander? This just isn’t the case. In the coaches poll sure. Some of these off-season polls though are done personally as they will add in extras as they are communicating with said coach. Stuff they said without naming names. Assistant coaches, maybe a few head coaches. Parrish and Norlander are very close with a lot of these guys.

I don’t disagree with ANY of this. I really like the guy. I’m going to support the program like I always do. Unless/until evidence becomes obvious we need to move on.

All this can be true, and a poll that names best coaching hires with college coaches and our guy isn’t in the top 9 listed is noteworthy from a surprise factor. That’s all.

The discussion could be interesting around why the dynamics are what they are that would have this happen when it seems he’s clearly a top 3-6 off-season hire.

lol….no. I couldn’t imagine a way to know anything less about what is going on than listening to the basketball media.

Devries could suck…like I care. Same thing for 25 years going. I’m used to it. One thing I know for sure is someone named Norlander/Parrish will have zero idea of how it’s going to go down.

For sure. I think it has a lot to do with his low key nature. Don't know anything about his relationships with other coaches across the conference/country, but he definitely gives the vibe of a guy who is all about ball / on the court stuff coming first. So I can see him being an afterthought for a lot of peers in such a poll + Indiana's lackluster brand over the past decade really. Luckily, I think a nose to the ground ball coach is the thing we need to get back to being a relevant program.

And that’s the point. It’s not Parrish or Norlanders list. It’s 100 college coaches they talk to. They were asked to name the best off-season coach addition and why. Some might be survey, but many are done in conversation with them as they add extras. Some head coaches. Some assistant coaches.

IM NOT SAYING DEVRIES SUCKS. I LIKE DEVRIES. I THINK/Hope he surprises. This isn’t my list.

It was interesting because the results didn’t match my expectations. That was the point.

Pre season fodder. This time from coaches.

On that note- Parrish is a bit of a bonehead and hates Indiana fans and can be emotional.

Norlander is a basketball encyclopedia and really knows his stuff and watches a lot of ball. I value his thoughts.

But this poll was college coaches. Ultimately, just preseason fodder.

I would wonder how these hires were graded when they happened

Calhoun to UCONN

Hurley to UCONN

Coach K to Duke

Roy Williams to Kansas

Dean Smith to UNC

Ready to Purdue

Not saying Devries will be a HOF coach but who gives a crap how other coaches feel about the hire

A Saturday afternoon game at Michigan, a Sunday afternoon game at UCLA, and a Tuesday night game against Purdue are all on Peacock?  Whatever man.

Corporate greed is undefeated.

It's a double-edge sword.

We don't want the games on another streaming service we have to pay for, but the conference and the institutions (non-profit entities except for two BIG schools, not corporations) need the money to pay players, update facilities, etc. etc.

We keep feeding a model that many (the conference, institutions, fans, players) don't particularly like and don't really think is sustainable. Yet the conferences and their schools, along with other governing bodies like the NCAA, refuse to consider other models.

The Big Ten sold their media rights such that some games are on Peacock.  They did this to maximize revenue to the conference.  So really it's mostly on the B1G and the schools since they made the decision.  It's annoying for fans, but in return, IU gets more revenue, which notably helps us compete vs. schools in other conferences.

That's modern college sports for ya...

Definitely understand. I do appreciate that the revenue generated from these deals will allow us to be more competitive in the ever increasing arms race. Just annoyed that this means the choice of paying for a service that I would otherwise have no use for vs missing more games than I usually would.

I might have to break down and get Peacock for the winter just because of this reason.  (If the discount shows up in the next few weeks, by all means, let us know.)  The only plus might be the Winter Olympics that start in early February that should be on Peacock if any are Olympic fans.

I guess I am the old man but I do miss the days where you knew you were playing on Thursday and Saturday or Sunday. Also you knew the majority of the games were going to be on channel 4 with the great camera angles.
