Back then 32 teams (maybe less) made the NCAA’s. The NIT was still a decent tourney with some upper echelon maj conf teams who didn’t make a much smaller NCAA field.

Todays NIT is nothing like that.

In 85 there were 64 teams in the tournament and RMK accepted a bid for the NIT

Why wouldn't you, are you saying we ate too good to sy in the NIT.  You get more practice time and games.  I don't care for the NIT but if we don't make the tournament you take the bid.  RMK wasn't to good to take the bid in 85 after his worst season at IU.  We went to the championship game of the NIT and two years later won the national championship.

Nope. I’m saying we’re too bad to play in it. In other words we won’t gain anything. (Also, It’s not 85 and we’re not coached by Knight. The comparison fails on many levels).

 See the following point.

We played in the NIT in 2019

Didn’t seem to help us much.

If you don't like them don't watch it but it is stupid to say to turn the bid down.  How are we to bad to play in the NIT because we probably be one of the top seeds in the NIT

But it’s not ‘85 and we’re not coached by Knight. Our best player isn’t a soph who can use experience. In fact, not a single full-time starter this season will be here in 2 years.

With the transfer market and 1-and-dones you don’t team build anything like Knight did in ‘85.

The comparison falls pretty flat for me and is the type of “this is what we’ve always done” rationale that generally leaves IU a step behind other programs for over two decades now.

Again if you don't like it which is your right then don't watch it.  Just because you think it is not important doesn't mean we should not accept the bid.

I most likely won’t watch it. Or won’t go out of my way, anyways.

I’ve made my case in several replies now. I think we do not gain much. I’m sure we’ll accept. We’ll see if it pays off next year or in 2024 (to further the ‘85 analogy).

His second three attempt of the possession against purdoodoo and the shot against Butler his freshman season. What other huge shots did he make?

He hit a huge 3 I'm OT against Neb.in OT.  They might not be buzzer beaters but he had hit a few others late in games to help us win.

You’re arguing emotion and really not engaging in any debate as to how it helps us. We’ll just have to agree to disagree on this one.

I said it gives us more games to play which is fine with me.  Should all football teams turn down bowl games that are not for the championship.  I would rather lose in the first round of the tournament than win the NIT.  If you don't make the tournament then you play in the NIT.  Maybe you don't see the value on it but that doesn't mean you are right.

I’m still trying to figure out why we would even accept an NIT invite. Can’t imagine the upper classman want to play in it. Not sure any of the transfers deserve more time in an IU jersey. Galloway and Lander aren’t playing. So we’re trying to get Geronimo and Bates more minutes?

If we’re not dancing, we should wrap up the season and start focusing on the off-season.

Well Indiana isn't "too good" to not play and we are definitely good enough to play in it. We are like the poster boy team to play in it.

Forgot about that run.

I haven't forgotten about Langford sitting out all 3 games because his back hurt. Probably could have won it if he had played and actually been engaged for all the games (may have been asking too much).

RP had hit some huge shots in his career and earlier this year against PU

But hasn’t hit for a high percentage but I would rather RP start over P Stew because he been with the team for 4 years, not 1.

You don't have to be a starter to get time on the court and improve.

Without him we wouldn't have been in position to win those games

Irrelevant.   He is not a winning player.    He helped get IU into winning position, then made losing plays which prevented the opportunity to win.  Games are not always "won."  They sometimes are "lost."  He lost us the game with mistakes late, and it's now happened 3 times.
