Class of '66 Old Fart

(2022) - PF Kaleb Banks to Tulane

Recommended Posts

On The Radar Hoops --

Kaleb Banks | 6-8 | SF | Fayette County | 2022 (Signed with Indiana)

How about the Hoosiers establishing a beachhead in ATL grabbing Banks and Newton from this list alone. This long-strider at 6-8 can really break you down off the bounce and seems to glide by folks with an ease that obviously will translate well to the Big Ten. Polished scoring and defense that can cover you inside and out, he’ll once again be the catalyst for an FCHS club that has designs on getting back to the 4A Finals for another shot at the title.

Last night Fayette County lost to #2 ranked McDonough 63 - 49 in a sloppily played game.  Neither team shot well and both teams very careless with the ball.  Cross court passes, half court passes, players trying to dribble between 2 defenders, etc.  McDonough did play a very tight man-to-man defense and it kept Banks out of his offensive comfort zone and he fouled out with 2 min. remaining in the game.  He did score 15 pts. on 6-15 FG; 2-6 on 3s; 1-2 FT; 8 reb; 1 stl; 5 TO; 2 blk.

Watched this game this morning. 1st Banks game this year. Not much to look at from a skill development perspective since it was a such a beating. But, 2 things: 1) Has added probably 10 lbs since the games I saw from March. Guessing in the 220 range now. 2) His athleticism is really coming. His change of direction and lateral movement are much better and he runs like a greyhound. Made a catch on a pass that was high and behind him when he was on the dead run and was able to contort his body, make the catch with his left hand, and put the ball on the floor without walking. Impressive athletic play. Banks had no matchup in this game, but physically, he looks great.

Does he look like he can play the 4 spot in the B1G?

Cause we are gonna have plenty of rotation guards next year, but Race and Trayce aren’t gonna be next to them.

That’s the concern.  Proposed Roster construction looks bad.  I like Banks, but thinking of him as our starting 4 as a Fresh, and expecting to improve our team.  Not happening. Same with Trayce.  So we improve at the 1 and 2 and decline at the 3, 4, 5.  Transfer market wishes. We need a miracle.

PS- not bad per se, just not top 15-25 good either, hence bad.  I know this is a recruit thread and I really like Banks and love his potential so this can carry on elsewhere.

That’s a worst case outlook.

The roster will have a strong 1-3. Bates, Leal, or Galloway can be a 3.

Durr, Duncomb, Banks, Geronimo, portal for the 4/5? Pretty attractive portal spot for TJD’s spot.

I think he’s got a chance to give you minutes next year. Could see him making the sort of impact Keegan Murray made for Iowa LAST year. But they better have a much more immediate solution to the Race/Trayce problem.

Gotta find a star or 2. Great teams have 1,2,or3 of them.

Maybe Bates?  No other player projects or is poised to be a star that can really make plays and take over games. Something big will need to happen. Galloway, Leal, Durr aren’t going to be stars. Lander/Geronimo…..maybe someday.

I try not to dwell on next year because we are potentially losing a lot of players/production. Hopefully we get a big in the portal and JHS is good from the get-go because it’s very possible we lose all 5 of our starters and possibly all three of our PG’s. It will be interesting to see if any of the current starters use their extra year.
