I love 0708, but his connections have been all over the place on this one. On HSN, on Monday before the crash, he said he'd heard it wasn't Stevens but someone was a lock that everyone would be happy with. Then his connection went all in on Stevens, and now (apparently) is leaking Woodson.

My guess is that Beard has already expressed serious interest behind the scenes, and him as a backup to Stevens is what made the donors comfortable with picking up the buyout.

I still think the worst case scenario here is Beilein. He'd be about my sixth choice, and I do worry about the thug comment when it comes to recruiting (society has shifted quite a bit on stuff like that over the last 12 months), but if he's the floor we're still in pretty good shape. He did win 30+ games two years ago in the B1G, and call me crazy, but with a few key upgrades (a stretch 4, and PG...if he doesn't think Lander is ready), our roster is actually set up ok for his style.

I would agree with that. This program is not as much of a rebuild as some make it out to be. There’s tons of potential it just needs to be drawn out of the players.

I guess Texas could move on from Shaka, but he had then in the top 20 all year, and given the buyouts, spending $20 million to switch to Beard seems awfully agressive after getting upset.

And who knows how Beard would view the two jobs in that scenario. I agree he'd likely prefer UT, but it's also possible he thinks IU has a higher ceiling as a program (it does).

If your Texas, with Shaka Smart going one and done, plus his lack of success the previous the previous 3-4 years.......Now is their best chance to cut bait and go after Beard before IU scoops him up.

Texas is supposedly Beards dream job, if your Texas wouldn't you jump on that?

Is Texas basketball desperate enough to pay for his $12million buyout meant to deter them specifically?

Bc he wasn’t able to win at a much smaller program with absolutely zero pressure. Archie had an exponentially better resume than fife. You think he can out recruit and out coach the guys in this league? I don’t.

Oh please. He was 25 when he was hired there. How many coaches take over a small crap program at age 25 and turn it around? He turned the program in the right direction and that’s a lot at PFW.

Would never rule out Texas money in their athletic department.  You telling me that Matthew McConaughey isn't a donor with some $$$$

For those of you saying that you'll give up on IU if they hire a coach you don't like...stop it.  No you won't.

Four years ago I knew the one candidate who would be terrible was Archie Miller.  I'm still a fan.  Treesh hated it so much he said he was done.  Now he's Archie's biggest fan.

You're not quitting IU basketball if we hire the guy you don't want.  It's ingrained in your soul.

To be fair, I got involved with college basketball which made me change my mind lol.

Didn't TTU finish behind UT this year? The optics of paying $20 million in buyouts in that scenario isn't great. I get it was only one year, but that would still be a very aggressive move.

Let's go back four years. Did any of the people with "insider information" actually get the Miller hiring right? I don't remember much except the Donovan stories and others hoping for Wright or Bennett or Whomever.

How about previous to that? Did any "insider" get the Crean hiring right? I honestly don't remember much at all about the expert predictions at that time.

All I'm saying is, it appears to be somewhat folly to put a heck of a lot of faith into any of these "insider" takes. Also that some of these coach's winning percentages that people complain about appear to be better than the "insider" track records.

Shaka in NCAA's as Texas coach last 4 years:

Year 1: One and done in NCAA, 8-10 in conf.

Year 2: NIT Champs, 8-10 in conf.

Year 3: 9-9 in conf.

Year 4: One and done in NCAA

Archie was mentioned. About as frequently as Porter Moser has this week.

That doesn’t mean we’re hiring Moser, but that about how much.

Beard is going to Texas folks. His girlfriend is probably laughing at the idea of moving to Indiana instead of Austin, TX.

We're striking out.

#1 is out. #2 is out.

Should we change the title to, who is our #3? LOL

Thad Matta, you're the next man up and I think that would be a good hire if he's healthy

Coaches under Thad Matta:

Sean Miller, Archie Miller, Brad Stevens, Todd Lickliter, John Groce.  All have had some success out on their own, again these looked better in 2017 vs 2021.

You can't argue that Matta can't coach, we need him to hire or keep a great recruiter.
