General Coach Candidate News

The demand that the coach also has to be a salesman/ politician/ CEO is ridiculous and harms the program imo.

let’s get a guy that’s a terrific basketball coach and let him focus on just that.

Right? If all of the comments about Ferguson and Buckner picking Woodson are true, then it sounds like the boosters are running the program. Maybe we need to worry less about finding a salesman/politician/CEO and have Dolson/Whitten get control of the athletic department's boosters.

Then maybe we can just worry about picking coaches who mostly just worry about coaching and recruiting with a little speech-making on the side. The political-work and *ss-kissing should be left to the AD and president.

I think it’s time to throw some money at the big dawgs. Don’t settle Dolson!

Might be a little late. Unless someone gets upset first round and like a blonde with huge juggs at the bar sees a rich guy who just had a fight with his wife.  Let's put that lipstick on and get out there.

Apparently Devries and the Iowa AD are out of the office today because they’re meeting in Iowa City for an interview. This is the chatter among Iowa and WV fans.

Yup, they’re all pretty happy about the potential hire

Sounds like Iowa fans are just as crazy as Indiana fans.

I would say you can fill in the blank with most power conference teams and they fit this description.

I hope this comment can distract the board. If huge jugs don't do it then this place is destined to collapse.

I understand McCollum is the likely favorite but hear me out…

Is it possible the BM / IU chatter could be coming exclusively from the BM side? If DeVries is Iowa’s guy, could the BM camp be getting nervous and hope to secure the IU gig? If so, it would make sense to start with an agent texting Goodman and then doing an unsolicited interview with Dan Dakich, of all people. I just think if BM was already locked into the IU gig he wouldn’t be doing an interview with DD and we would have heard more from the IU side rather than just Goodman.

All things point to BM, but maybe that’s what doesn’t make sense to me. Fun stuff we got going.

I thought it was just more proof of how abnormally quiet Dolson’s search has been.

The Archie thing made me re-evaluate how I look at coaching resumes, and give more weight to comparative success. Archie was very good, but there have been a lot of good coaches at Dayton; I now think that a coach like Miller would be expected to have a team with more favorable predictive metrics than Dayton ever had during his time there.

Hindsight is 20/20, but I think that's a relevant insight.

Don’t disagree!

He had a good resume with a good run but his lack of personality should have been a clue.  But coming off Crean who could charm anyone we went too far the other direction and assumed Archie's lack of personality meant he was soley focused on basketball.  I got to meet Archie and before meeting him the guy from IU basically described him as this quiet but great basketball nerd.

Thing I like about McC is he has established a way to win.  Similiar to Cig, he knows how to run things, how to prepare, how to outcoach.  Now he needs to show he can also recruit at a higher level the coach the higher level.  Definately a risk, but if not getting a big fish might as well try for the next big fish vs a retread

Agree. Archie was not a fit for all the off court stuff that the IU job requires.

I'm saying IU has already taken him.  That's why Iowa won't announce him.

Everything coaches do at the level is calculated. Media don't get their info or scoops from AD's or assistant coaches, it's straight from the agents.

Brownell and Ben's agents are working OT right now trying to get their clients name out.
