I agree that an open shot is better- the shot should be open, balanced, and from the right location. These numbers only take into account the location, so I think there is room for numbers to go up if the shot is open and down if the shot isn't, so one stat won't tell the whole story, but I think everyone with the exception of Oats is still extremely midrange jumper happy. This strategy hasn't been used for years.

Open vs not would only really influence a small sample size, but I don't think your sample size was small. Since it wasn't a small sample size that is taken into account as there would be plenty of perfect shots taken, plenty of terrible shots, and everything in between. Basically, you're seeing what you see in the real world and not just hypothetical stats.

And if you think about it, it makes sense. The farther from the basket you get, the lower the shooting percentage will be, regardless of being open or not. So as you move away from the basket the efficiency of the shot drops until you hit the 3 point line and then it jumps back up again.

I think it’s plausible that Adidas might help with funding a buyout to get a strong candidate for one of their flagship brands.

INTERESTING ....... pulling a new household name ---- Nate Oats ---- from a rival branded school Alabama (Nike). That'd be a baller move on the part of Adidas ..... and IU!!! I like it!

Is Adidas one of the two anonymous donors?

Regarding Nate Oats, I think it's certainly plausible he could want to remain at Alabama. It gives him an opportunity to routinely be in the mix for Final Fours and National Championships, without the spotlight that comes with a basketball-first school (ala Holtmann). But it's also possible that he'd rather be at a basketball-first school, and a top 5 or 6 program historically, along with an opportunity to return to the Midwest. Only Oats knows.

If it were UNC, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, or UCLA hiring a coach, though, I don't think anyone would be surprised if someone like Oats decided to accept the offer even if Alabama was paying him good money. There are only so many blue blood job opportunities available. So for that reason, it isn't crazy to think that Oats (or Beard, Drew, etc.) would view IU desirably even if they are generally content where they are.

wonder if Oats is friends with fellow Maranatha Baptist grad Tom Allen?

Again way behind today. I heard Sterling talking about that and thought wth is he talking about. To my knowledge shoe companies have absolutely no bearing on schools hiring certain coaches. The coaches themselves may have preferences but I doubt the shoe companies have any say in who a school hires.

Yes but if a coach has AAU connections with Nike, would he change brands and come to Iu? What I’m saying does having adidas sponsorship hurt our chances at landing a coach because he’s rather got to a nike school ?

I think this goes without saying, but 99.9% of the rumors going around are not true. I’ve been told by a source in athletic department (with firsthand knowledge of the process) that practically every rumor out there is unfounded and made up.

Source said only Rabjohns/Osterman (via IU spokesperson) report about Matta not being interviewed/taking a physical was only true story. Just FYI.

I don't know about you or your source, but I find this more credible than almost all the rumors.

Also, I know there was some previous talk of Adidas not being "cool" amongst teens and that somehow limiting Indiana but amidst all the rumors, speculation, etc. I can tell you one thing is absolutely true ----- Adidas is very very cool amongst teens. They all want the Adidas Boost as their everyday sneakers (or at least one of their everyday sneakers). I actually think it's Indiana's "tradition" that probably does not allow Adidas to flex their creative muscles when it comes to designing jerseys and shorts that would maybe appeal more to today's youngsters a la some of the Nike schools. Heck even Notre Dame football lets Under Armour have a little fun.

That's absolutely the type of thing Dolson needs to know.
