NCAA MBB Transfer Portal

"Portal Kombat" is funny.

Looks like the B1G should be down this year, but the 4 new teams are a whole new dynamic, so who knows.

MSU, OSU, Purdue, Minnesota, Wisconsin all should drop off.

Interesting case -- Bewley twins are in the portal.  They signed with Chicago State last year (I am sure they ended up there largely because their eligibility was in question and Chicago State could afford to have the open spots if they didn't become eligible).

NCAA is still ruling them ineligible as the case makes it through the courts.  Their crime?  Making money off of their name, image, and likeness while playing for Overtime Elite -- about $31,000 more than the expenses to cover beyond their education, room, board, and travel expenses.  Seems very strange because they basically are saying that players can't profit from their name, image, and likeness UNLESS it is done when they are in college.

Would be the dumbest decision ever.  Ballo only got 1.2 million and he is way better.

VERY incomplete list of centers still in the portal and the 247 center ranking.  Some may have signed and 247 hasn't posted yet.

Don't see NK and Hatton on the list but there are lots of oversights -- particularly if a player didn't have a recruit ranking coming out of high school.  FWIW, Hatton is listed as the #28 overall center in that entered the portal by On3.  Will be creating a separate list for power forwards as some guys that play the 4 or 5 get listed as 4's.

On three point shooting, I only gave totals if there was a significant number of threes taken.

Thanks for the info.  How many years of eligibility do each of them have.  I think we should look at 3 things:

1) Are they already used to playing less than 20 minutes per game.

2) Do they have 2-3 years of eligibility left

3) Do they have the potential to improve.

Purely FYI from Inside The Hall -

78 men's basketball scholarship players from Big Ten schools entered the transfer portal this spring. Of those 78, only 20 still remain in the portal.

I'm not sure I'd use the word "only" in that context. That's over 25%. Players from the B1G shouldn't have trouble finding new places to play but it looks like a quarter of them are. Some of them might just being selective and taking their time to decide but I doubt all of that 25% are. Some of them probably aren't getting traction from schools that they think they should be able to play for. This goes in line with the B1G not being very good last year.

It’s all a mix of starters, bench, ego’s and money!  Go figure.  Stir in the fact that these are kids with no or very little experience in life.  Interesting mess for sure.  What about the ones who entered the portal and don’t find a place to land?  No more scolly?  Greed can cause all kinds of problems………..

Players are sometimes pushed into the portal, they don't always go in because of greed. I'd say any players who can't find a new team because no one thinks they're good enough would likely fall into that group.

I believe over 50% of those who entered the portal haven’t committed anywhere so the Big Ten’s 25% is good…especially when it goes down further for guys like Coleman Hawkins are technically in but are almost surely staying in the draft.
