This feels entirely possible. Indianapolis kid with a Michael Lewis connection. Had a meh but not terrible year at Mizzou a couple years back. And strictly a 1 year guy.

For sure. I was thinking it definitely makes sense on paper

Seems like a natural fit. Only question is whether he’ll want to go from a 14.3 ppg starter to fighting CJ for the sg backup position.

The player he was at Mizzou is strictly a rotation piece and didn’t demonstrate a lot of projectability. Imagine he’s making a financial choice and I doubt anyone who’d be  involved has a better setup on that front than IU. If Newton was healthy I wouldn’t even consider it. But since he’s not, we’ll see.

Trilly Donovan's website says UCF was the first to reach out.

From the article:

"The announcement marks the first of a handful of transfers expected to hit the portal in August. Summer classes end over the next two weeks, giving those who graduate the eligibility to transfer without a waiver."

So, stay tuned. Would be surprised if we don't push to add someone, even if it's strictly a guard back-bench depth piece.

Not sure how I feel about it.  I mean, it's better than an empty space for sure for depth and injury back up.  It givens a "proven" guy at a lower level if Gunn is struggling.  I don't think he takes Galloway's spot.  His handle super tight.  He's a shooter when open, kinda.  37% fg and 35% from 3 against MAC teams.  IDK, maybe this is the move but besides a depth piece I'm not sure this does much for us.

I understand that.  Just not sure it makes us better.   Maybe he thrives in the knockdown shooter role.  I guess , if he's a great kid and willing team guy, you can't really go wrong, so I get it on that level.

For a depth piece, we're looking for a great kid and team guy that has one translatable skill.

I’d take him IF Newton is in doubt for most of the season AND IF Woody is unsure of Gunn’s ability to relieve TG during games and/or take his place in case of injury.

Hopefully  Gunn is showing promise this summer (I have no idea) because it is a little scary going into the season at the 2G with TG’s backups only being an unproven Gunn and, possibly out for most of the season, unproven Newton.

He did have 1 season at Missouri so we don't only need to look at his MAC stats. Subpar 3-point percentage that season at only 30% at ~5 attempts per game. Even his FT percentage that season was way down from his other years so many that was just a bad shooting season for him? Kind of sounds like the increased competition level messed with his head to me. IDK.

He did start most of that season and played a lot of minutes as he also did at BSU. That makes me wonder how happy he'd be to play as a backup getting significantly fewer minutes.

He is a large guard at 6-5 which is what Woodson seems to like. Anyone know about his defense?

FWIW, I believe fellow Ball State transfer Jaylin Sellers transferred to UCF.  Could be the two players are tight.

Malique Ewin back in the portal (certainly not an IU prospect).  6'10" center, was ranked 118th by 247 when he entered college.  Only played spot minutes at Ole Miss.  Entered the portal in the spring, signed at South Florida and now has re-entered.
