He’s right, but I think for the most part it’s not just talented bigs, it’s bigs who’ve played a lot. TKR’s a 5th year. Ejiofor and Reed are Seniors. The 2 Michigan St bigs are both 5th years. Mast at Nebraska is 24. The 2 Illinois kids are young but they’ve been Pros since they were 16. Cenac for Houston is as talented as any of those dudes but he hasn’t played enough and he wasn’t ready for that deal. There aren’t many guys like that at all and, man, you’re right, are they gonna cost you.

Yeah, experience in the system is also huge. Wish we had a big returning that got some run last year.
Not that there was anybody on the roster even remotely close to the guys referenced in the tweet.

Just went back and looked it up - mea culpa; Juwan was specifically grateful to Archie (and Crean). Go to the 12:00 mark:

By the way - it's a helluva good speech by an underrated really good player and a guy I'm proud to be a fellow alum with.

Thank you for pulling that. Definitely don't want to create a false narrative. That's my bad.

I must be thinking of someone else.

I have the exact same feelings about Archie's senior night disconnect, and it wasn't just with Archie-hater DeVonte Green.

Seems like the type of player our staff will love. But we will probably target Orme as a similar type player with less fanfare.

I mean, regardless there has to be elements of "who can you actually get"....

He started off very hot in non conference but his play fell off a cliff once the conference season started. A lot of potential though

Another one-time IU offer hits the portal.  Offered July '22 and committed a month later to Maryland.

Georgetown wing Deshawn Harris-Smith is entering the transfer portal. The 6-5 junior out of Woodbridge, Virginia began his career playing two seasons at Maryland before spending one at Georgetown. He averaged 5.2PPG and 2.5RPG in 6 games this season.

Was a board 5 star most wanted.  Lots were disappointing when he went elsewhere and many said we missed out.  Maybe 2nd time around is the charm and he is the perfect fit for IU.   Or he will go elsewhere and be forgotten again

Didnt see him as a HM in HS but kids get better so you never know.

Always been a plus athlete and streaky shooter.

Third Oregon player in the portal:  Dezdrick Lindsay.  Made 8 starts, averaged 5.3 points and 2.8 rebounds.  Shot 40/33/58.  20.5 minutes/game.  In no way a major player, but the list of players leaving Oregon keeps getting bigger.

Altman's days numbered?
