I somewhat agree that he doesn't value the 3 enough but my goodness the offense gets open 3's, we just suck at shooting. In the last two games, Al has been wide open, no one even in the 812 area code around him and airball. Never seen so many shots not touch the rim at all. Last game Al, Leal, Lander, Hunter, Thompson, Galloway, and Rob all had a 3 that didn't touch the rim or hit it so hard it came ricocheting back at them.
Either recruit shooters or instill confidence in the players you have. It's the coach's job either way.

Not disagreeing with that at all. I blame the recruiting. Been saying for 3 years to grab a pure shooter and our woes will be cured. A pure shooter would make everyone else shoot better.

That doesn't actually help. Teams now really just don't care if we shoot 3s. Why would they? Even if we had shooters, our offense doesn't have the movement to get guys open. They're open because the defenses allow it.

Shooters would obviously had made a big difference. Archie's recruiting approach has been to grab a star (Romeo and TJD) and surround him with some decent role players. He needed more than what he landed to improve--one very good player on a team isn't enough. More fundamentally, Archie's offensive scheme is stagnant.  And, for whatever reason the pack line defense isn't working--IU is ranked 12th in the conference in defense. Archie's coaching style lacks creativity and flexibility. In fairness, he has been hit by injuries. IU would have won a few more games with Brunk and Franklin healthy.

An argument could be made that Archie's biggest shortcoming has been recruiting.  Beyond one-year rental of RL and TJD, he's attracted no highly rated difference-makers, nor built the roster with badly needed skills (shooting, PG to name a couple).  His recruitment of non-Indiana prospects has been quite poor, IMO.

I do think the promise of 'inside out' recruiting did hurt him in the long run. He's not from Indiana, and I think it's somewhat ignorant to believe focusing on one state is the right move in 2021.

Do they practice shooting at all?  Granted the college game is different, but the only way a decent shooter in HS becomes a bad shooter in college is they don't practice and develop it.

Was two years always TJD's plan? Or is a fractured relationship with Archie playing a big part in a decision to likely bolt? Just wondering -- say we do part ways with Archie and TJD hits it off with the new coach, any chance he stays? Don't know how far-fetched this might be -- I was just curious if this in any way was a possibility.

So the feel today is archie stays another year? And we wait till late April to fire him? Lol not happening. They have to fire him I don't care how much the buyout is. If they wait till next year it will be eye opening as to why the program is in the crapper

If you don't remember what it was like when we went through this four years ago, expect the vibe to constantly shift back and forth, sometimes even within a single day. Fun times to be an IU fan!

So so true! It's a constant back and forth, until the day it either 'is or isn't.'

It's not nearly as fun as looking forward to the tournament, but it's all we've got for now.

Yeah I’m trying to remember the days leading up to Crean being gone...wasn’t there word that there was a decent chance he was staying and people who wanted him out got panicky? Or were the winds all blowing in the same direction with him that he was for sure gonna be gone at this point of that season?

On the morning of the day he was fired, someone on Twitter (forget who it was, might have been someone with ITH), said "all signs point to a return." Yeah, there was quite a bit of panic in the days leading up to it. Things seem pretty quiet now, in comparison.

Thanks...with it being quiet now, like u mentioned, do you think that makes it lean one way or another or it probably just doesn’t mean anything?

Could mean nothing.  I fully expect him back, not that he deserves it, because there have been no signs of the university caring much how the basketball program does.

I think 4 years ago, there was a lot more noise because Crean loved coaching here and didn't want to be fired. I always thought the "soft landing" nonsense was BS. Crean won big games here, and seemed to genuinely embrace where he was. I've never gotten that vibe from Miller. If he has any affection toward this place, he has a funny way of showing it. I think he realizes he's in over his head and has been for some time, but factors like pride and $$$ are making it more difficult for him to step away.

My wife and I had a discussion about this. From time to time I would see Crean out and about, and often heard of people having interactions with him. I personally had a couple.

Now there may be some on here that have, but I personally have not heard of anyone having any interaction with him in the community, let alone even seeing him. I've never got the impression he was invested in this community, which is a shame. I wonder if some of that disconnectedness is resulting in the fan base's reaction. A lot harder to can a coach that is involved in the community and making an effort.
