Annnndddd…college athletes are officially salaried employees while in college.

Add nine more boosters to this one guy and each U football player will collect $60k annually for their occasional social media posts, all while receiving fully paid for room and board at their university.

This may put a serious hurt on smaller fan bases—potentially great for a mega-fan base like IU. ESPECIALLY when it’s applied to a 13 player basketball roster.

Think of it this way:

For about $300,000 a year a booster can “hire” every IU bball player at $2,000 a month. If the program collects 20 boosters at that average rate, each IUBball player would be collecting $480,000 annually.

That’s not an entirely far-fetched scenario.

Yep.  It’s great for us.  I still think we will see something where a company like Cook hires all the players to make an appearance at a dinner for their entire leadership team.  Quarterly leadership dinner 15,000 per player an appearance. Equals 60,000 dollars for the players for 4 nights of regaling people with cool stories.  And the key is that’s something. Incoming recruits would know about and factor into their decision

Yep- I thought something similar. I can see filling up a large venue and players getting paid for an appearance. "The 2022 models are out, come see them, get a free hot dog and meet Trayce Jackson Davis!" etc, ad infinitum.

Seems like we're trying to stay ahead of the curve on this whole N-I-L concept putting out a directory of how to contact our athletes.  The second link is to the actual directory.

Great deal for TJD, I think you will hear that Merchants will also be doing a deal with a woman's basketball player. Will be a very nice paycheck for both.

This could be big.  A window into how NIL can/will work.

“This is 100 percent legal. This is 100 percent within the parameters Indiana University has laid out and 100 percent within the parameters the NCAA has laid out,” Pankowski said. “Also, we’re not making any money on this.”

I love this.

Yet, I worry -- 'Attorney' Pankowski says it is legal. That doesn't quite get it there for me. However, give the guy credit--he is a monster IU fan and he is truly motivated to DO SOMETHING about it. Constantly!  :)

Eric and Ward--if you're on this board ( I wouldn't be surprised) shoot me a pm!

And this is why I think we get recruits our incredible donor base that can now do it legally is going to energized. Heck can we pool money to get TJD to tweet out the link to btb

NIL through a university or jumping to Overtime Elite if you're offered?

'23 Myles Colvin recently offered a 2-year $500,000 deal from OE.  Today I read '23 5-star KJ Lewis declined an offer from Overtime Elite worth $500,000 and will enroll in college once graduating high school.

Several hours after I  posted this, it was announced that Colvin declined the offer.

They said they ran it through Ice Miller in Indy to make sure it was legal.

It's going to be beautiful weather in Bloomington this weekend, the campus will be buzzing with students that just returned, and most of the players have newly formed NILs to brag about. Noah Clowney and his family should be in for a great visit.

Can you outline the newly formed NILs?

TJD for Merchant’s Bank, most of them with T-shirt deals. I think Leal and others have interview deals, and then there’s the Hoosier Hysterics Collective, which actually could be pretty notable and forward thinking.

There are more early entries than draft spots, guys play overseas or get contracts as undrafted rookies, and given they have to take summer classes to participate in summer workouts, most guys can finish undergrad in 3 years if they try…I wouldn’t bet on a fourth year, think @Chris007 said earlier this week it’s a non-starter

Possible but it’s also possible now for boosters to outbid any nba or foreign offer in fact I bet TJD is making more money this year than some former Hoosiers playing overseas. Obviously a first rounder isn’t going to pass that up.
