Walking Boot of Doom Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 Yeah, The Crean Goodbye tour was terrible but a big part of me could laugh and enjoy the failures as it meant a new start. Didn’t hate it that bad. As far as fun? I hoped Green could handle PG or miracle PG Phinisee. 3 point shooting I thought would be Romeo and Fitzner and improvement from rostered players. And interior presence, yeah that was always going to be a weakness but Juwan showed in stretches to play his best at the 5 last year. If this team gelled well and used each other strengths they could be fun I think. But instead we see disjointed offense with zero flow. And in general, a lack of effort and hustle for long stretches. I never expected us to be a top 5 team but I thought a top 10 team was a possibility depending on growth and Romeo. Finally, I was expecting just watching Romeo to be a treat, and in large parts it has. His 3 point shooting has been a killjoy though. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile appYou used the words “hoped” and “miracle” to describe a potentially successful roster, and I think we’re all discovering that whatever god you believe in isn’t a college basketball fan. This roster was absolutely not built for success barring shocking developments at PG and the 5. Juwan is a stud, but pretty ridiculous to expect that he man the entire post every game without tiring nor getting in foul trouble. He has no relief outside of Smith, debatably a perimeter player. Regarding Romeo, he’s been a treat. I don’t think his 3PT shooting has killed any of the joy of watching a future NBA forcefully finesse his way to the rim. Truly impressive abilities. MikeRoberts Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 I think the concern is not the losses, but how we look. I still don’t know what the end result is supposed to look like. What does a successful Archie offense look like? Is it smooth, fun to watch, 3s, driving, post ups, transition, half court, idk... I do know that it is looking really slow and stagnant and neither can be a good thing, is that intentional?Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Quote

It does not on any level Quote

I have a feeling the bewildered looks are mostly in regards to green. There’s so many savvy PGs that would kill to have his physical abilities. Quote
HoosierDYT Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 What would everyone like to see in the offense with respect to our players’ skills/weaknesses? I’ve seen a lot saying Romeo coming off more picks, but what else do you think should be included? My biggest concern is a lot of the movement is lateral with handoffs. I’d like to see more back door cuts and double screens. 2 good things I think are consistent is our post entry to JM and high low between Morgan and Smith/Romeo Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners MikeRoberts 1 Quote
southernindianahoosier2 Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 Did Coach K have 2 of the top ten players in the conference his second yearHe has 2 of the top ten, and then the rest are the worst in the big ten. I think if phinisee, Davis, et all didn’t have injuries then we wouldn’t be as bad as we areSent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Quote
MoyeNeeded Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 Maybe it's the Curse of Bobby Knight. We will never win another NC until he comes back to Assembly Hall or passes away. Either way...it may be awhile! coonhounds 1 Quote

Ranger78 Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 The offense would look a lot better if the players could hit open shots. The longer we show we can't make open 3's the more teams will sag and take away the dribble drive. And I think that's why Archie has stayed with Fitzner so long. In theory, he's supposed to be able to knock down the open shot. Fitzner mechanics are off and his shot actually doesn't even resemble what it did earlier in the year. I personally would run RP and Al off a few screens and get them some open looks. I think they're our best shooters. Juwan looks tired and it looks like his legs are toast. He's missed a lot of close in shots and he's not getting much lift. The defense looks good at times, but we still give away too many easy buckets. (it's like help the helper is foreign to some of these guys) For the most part, I think this is simply lack of effort, which is showing up with rebounding (or lack of rebounding). I don't even get too upset anymore. I just watch and hope Archie and the team figure it out. Alford Bailey and ellen.walden 2 Quote
southernindianahoosier2 Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 I'd like to see some passion from this team. Very dissapointed in all aspects of the program after last night. I do think we'll turn it around and make it to the dance with a S16 ceiling. Quote

IUHoosier5 Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 One concern I have in particular is how obvious it is that this team puts points on the board when we move the ball well, but we hardly ever do that! We stand around or dribble way too much. Move that ball, and good things happen! Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners ellen.walden, DChoosier and Alford Bailey 3 Quote
ap2345 Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 So I have tried defending CAM on here on several occasions but this is getting bad. I understand that the offense is partially looking bad because shots aren't falling for shooters but that's only part of the problem that I see. CAM isn't utilizing Morgan or Langford very well at all. The offense is stagnant. Romeo is only getting shots by creating for himself or shooting out of a dribble hand off or a dribble weave up top. This staff isn't using any pin down, cross screen, or really any pick and roll/pop actions. This to me is concerning because they aren't utilizing our players the way other schools utilize theirs. Also more times than not bad shots out of bad offense don't go in. This is what I see. Durham shoots multiple contested threes almost every game and others do as well. This is because IU is easy to guard from an offense stand point however they do have a couple guys that can go and get their points and that is really the only way it seems like IU scores. This is just my two cents but it is concerning to me. Hillsdale87 1 Quote

Ranger78 Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 It’s how we work these days... Alabama loses the national championship game and everyone starts talking about how Saban has lost the reign. Everything is so ‘NOW’ related and few have any patience to let anything grow. I’m not sure Coach Miller is the answer and I’m getting less and less excited about IU basketball, but we must give him a chance. If we beat PU on Saturday, we won’t be any closer to the answer. The answer takes time. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners thebigweave, moyemayhem, GaryP and 3 others 6 Quote
