Those two aren't really comparable though? This kid isn't the second coming, but he is a better option then what we have and again, he can make plays with his legs, and that drives defensive cord nuts!! just ask Nick Saban.

Also... your signature says we aren't looking for the best player, we are looking for the right ones. It appears this kid is the right player with a lot of experience. One more thing, take a deeper look at his INTs... when he was a FR he threw 2 INTs in 5 games and 38 ATTs, not great, not awful, little below avg. As a SO he threw 6 INTs in 10 games and 182 ATTs... I mean, it's really not that bad? Last season 4 INTs in 7 games and 114 ATTs. Nothing wrong with that.

I have a good feeling about this.  Just the guy CTA is wanting to run the offense.  Can't wait to see Coach Ballou and Dr. Rhea get a hold of this guy to step up his RPO!

I see a 7 win team at best more than likely a 5-6 win team.

Btown, That’s what he has done since I’ve joined here. He makes his snarky comments and relays them to realistic views for football. His opinions and views are always right. If you’re an over zealous football fan then something is wrong with you and your views are wrong. Anyway...brass...Lagow made really no plays outside the pocket. This guy can. This guy fits what DeBord has ran in his most recent years. So there’s that and that’s what I was saying. If I’m wrong brass then prove it.  Saying to caution about passing stats....nobody ever said he was a pro QB that sits in the pocket and throws 35-50 passes a game. He’s a dual threat guy and typically your non superstar QBs are not completing a high percentage of passes. He makes plays and opens the game up like we have wanted in the past. That’s all anyone is saying they are excited about.....coaches have said there will be competition still. He said two weeks ago he wants competition so.....we don’t even know if he will be the starter. I think people are excited at the fact it’s an older QB that is experienced in some big games.....do I need to mention we have 3 QBs on scholly...once again...that would be addressing the depth issue we have right now..people are excited to possibly have a starter that can make plays with his legs and extend plays....I think all btown is saying is you can’t compare these two QBs based on throwing stats and then say oh watch out he isn’t what he’s made out to be....this kid can run and like I said extend plays...I never said anything about passing numbers because physically and game playing wise they aren’t in the same category.  No they aren’t great (air numbers) but if you’re looking at them to compare then you have to look at Lagows ability to extend plays and run. Which he really couldn’t do. Why look at running because that’s the threat Dawkins brings. He’s not just a thrower. My long snarky comment and realistic post is over.

Not that it really matters but I can see IUFB start out 4-1 (home games against Virginia, Ball State and MSU; road games against FIU and Rutgers).  After that they have winnable home games against Iowa, Maryland and Purdue.  That's 7.  And a road game against Minnesota is in the reach.  I think this year's success will really depend on two keys; the running game and the running defense.  If they can get some 3rd and long situations on D and hold on to the ball on O they have a really good shot at winning a lot more games then we are accustom to seeing.

Call me a homer but I have a really good feeling about this season.  I could be wrong because we are talking about IUFB here but the glass is half full for me.

Glad to have this QB on board. Being in the BIG East, I’m hopeful for 6 wins and a bowl game. Even PU has a good coach now, so that’s not an easy game anymore.

I thought the same last year but it sure helps now having a QB that can make plays, which we have not had in a while. Running game looks good and it's hard to doubt Allen with the defense so far based on what he has done. Special teams was good at times and a mess at other times last year. We got a pretty good kicker though right to replace Oakes? Punter seemed solid. Wondering also who the return man will be now that Harris has moved on.

Ramsey is simply not the guy, and others are too young or too inexperienced.   IU can win 7-8 games next season, but needs a QB to do it.  I think a lot of the DeBord haters will eat crow if he stays healthy.

I would love to be wrong on DeBord. I wasn’t impressed with him at all last year. I thought that he was far too conservative with the playcalling. It sounds like Dawkins is the kind of quarterback he has had success with in the past, so I’m optimistic. We’ll see what happens.

I don't know anything about the kid or haven't seen any highlights but if I'm not mistaken he did get benched at an average Pac 12 school. So all of sudden he's going to come here to the midwest where it is cold and be a superstar. I hope he is but I think that is a reach. It's still IU football until something changes.

I don't know anything about the kid or haven't seen any highlights but if I'm not mistaken he did get benched at an average Pac 12 school. So all of sudden he's going to come here to the midwest where it is cold and be a superstar. I hope he is but I think that is a reach. It's still IU football until something changes. 

Where did I say superstar? And AZ offensively is really good.. did you see the kids numbers that he got benched for?

Gotcha.. simply put, he is a guy that can extend plays and run when needed. Similar to Ramsey, but another levels up athletically.

I think the one aspect missing, or I probably should describe as lacked (Ramsey was just too young and injured to get it going), from last year's QB core was the 'R' in an offense that runs RPO.  He adds the R to the core because he's proven with experience.  He also adds depth to the bunch.  If one gets injured there's a next man up with field experience situation here.  This overall is a good thing for the team.

My only problem with Ramsey was it didn't seem like he could complete passes downfield all that well. Had to be inside 10 yards.

I'm right with you on this.  Hopefully, he's improved on that this off season.  He was a Freshman last year.  He did have spots of greatness.  I think it was the Virginia game last year where he threw a roll out TD pass down field that was impressive?  Hopefully, he improves as the years go on.
