That thought occurred to me during the game.  Maybe it's just because you can't polish a turd.

We have got 5* under every head coach at IU in spite of us not being elite. I highly doubt he goes past 2019 without a 5*. It’s almost difficult to be here and not get 5* talent within a couple of years. Relationships with AAU in this state is critical. Those relationships are better now. A big reason Crean is gone. He couldn’t go to an Indiana Elite game and say he was getting who he wanted at the end. I will go out on a limb and say that is already over.

Romeo, TJD, and Brooks will tell us a lot.  IMO Archie has to land at least 2 of them or it's pretty unlikely he succeeds here.

DeRon Davis ranked similar to Bates Diop.

Rob Johnson rated better than Tate. Then we have 4 stars Morgan and Smith. They have 4 star in Wesson. Both have 3-4 three stars.

DeRon Davis is out for the season. He was not top 30.

Both Diop and Tate were top 30.

Morgan was 102 and Smith is a freshman who was 75th.

There is no reason why we can't become a very good team (and I'm confident we will).  You become good with good coaching and talented players.  What talent we -should- have in our upper classmen was lost due to heading off to the NBA.  Our sophomore and freshmen classes have a total of ZERO impact players.

I think they are better than at the beginning of the year, as they are certainly better defensively. The problem is that there are a lot of things they don't do well offensively.  But defensively they are both better than earlier this year, and better than any of the last few years.

And they don't turn the ball over anywhere near as much as previous seasons.

Have to disagree. I’ve noticed a ton of improvement defensively but this team simply can’t score. No go-to players that can create or carry the team on his shoulders

I definitely agree from a team standpoint.  I think our ball movement has even improved marginally.  That said, I can't really say that any individual player has shown much improvement as the season has progressed (perhaps McRoberts - at least he's not as afraid to shoot as he was).

I think Juwan has. He did not start out the year like he is playing now. Remember the Duke game it was still on Davis to be the man. I think Rojo has improved as the season has went forward especially on the defensive end. Otherwise? I got nothing. I have bitched enough for one night about Newkirk.

IU needs a thorough, external and impartial review of its athletics department to figure out what it is doing wrong. There is no acceptable reason for us to be this bad routinely in football and now basketball.

Well, for basketball I'd say:

1. 3 straight sh*tty coaching hires - hoping the fourth time we've got it right.

2. Not cheating enough.

Yeah, I can see your point about JM.  Johnson has always been so inconsistent (still is) that it's hard to see a trend + or -.

Individually, I’d add Juwan to that list. Didn’t put up the points tonight but the aggressiveness was there on both ends.

Yep. I think it goes under appreciated that we are stripped of talent because they were pro- ready. We're weak inside, but don't forget Bryant, Anunoby, and De'Ron were recruited to be in those spots now. We have no scoring, but CuJo and JBJ were expected to pan out.

Yes, I'm making excuses. But they are legit reasons that we don't have the depth and talent of the teams beating us.

Indiana isn't dead. Fourteen months ago we were soaring. Beating top teams. Top 5 rank. Coach Miller is still likely to be an upgrade, so let's be a smidge patient.
