Potential starting 5 for next year, does Juwan GoPro?

All I know is if Langford comes to Indiana and Morgan stays (which I believe he will do), Indiana is in the national conversation immediately.

Phinisee, Langford, McRoberts, Morgan, Smith, Davis, Green.  That's a very strong top 7; but we still need some size.  And it leaves out several kids who I think have a chance to contribute.  We'll be deep if small.

Agree 100%. Size is our next worry. Shooting first. Size next. Then winning lots of ball games.

Also agree.
I believe that with Morgan, Smith, and probably Hunter we’ll have mucho depth at the four, but we will need someone to defend the five and protect the rim.
Out of a rehabbed Davis, Moore, Thompson, Forrester, and maybe a mystery grad transfer to be named, we need at least one and probably two to be productive.

My guess that means nothing...

PG Robert Phinese

SG Jerome Hunter

SF Damezi Anderson

PF Juwan Morgan (think he stays)

C De'Ron Davis

McRoberts, Green, Smith, Durham, and Thompson come off the bench.

This doesn't include Romeo or any transfers. This lineup/bench I think would be a 8-10 seed and middle of big ten team. If Romeo commits it makes us a Big Ten Contender (maybe favorite) and a Sweet 16-Elite 8 team.

I would be shocked if Archie starts three freshmen, especially all in the backcourt. I just don’t see that as a likely scenario.

Agreed.  Phinisee will start, I think; and Romeo obviously would.  I see no scenario where Hunter or Anderson start right away.  Morgan and McRoberts will start next year without a doubt (I just don't see how you can keep him off the floor).  I also thing Green probably will.  And Davis if healthy.

Agree. I would view Morgan, Langford (assuming he comes), and even McRoberts as locks. The other starters probably between Green, Phinisee, Smith and maybe Davis. I’m not as high on Davis as others.

I agree McR is a starter at the beginning of the season unless a freshman just absolutely takes the position away from him over the summer and pre-season.  But, I also believe that towards the latter half of the season, McR will have lost his starter's role to a freshman.

The interesting player will be Green.  In the eyes of Coach Miller, is he a 1?  Is he a 2?   If a "2," I believe Phinisee starts from day 1, and will be a terrific 4 year point guard (** for those new to the board, I have a serious man crush on Phinisee, and I think he is a terrific player who has played 3 1/2 years as a distributor, not truly showing his full capability; and I learned some time ago he was the first contact CAM made after Romeo when he took the job here.  I know I am over the top on this kid, and I also think I'm right about him.  You may make fun of me at your leisure **).

If Green is a 1, I think the whole dynamic of the team changes, and it'll be interesting to see what happens.

Completely agree. I was actually trying to mention Green/Phinisee thing in my reply to you last night, but my iPad was acting up and I couldn't type.

If the Green we've seen the last 10 days or so is a launching point for his IU career, and not a little short burst of good play, then I think Archie brings Phinisee along a little more slowly, and you'll see something like Green, Langford (again assuming we get him), McRoberts, Smith, Morgan.

I just think Archie, while I'm sure excited about this class (with or without Langford), prefers veterans and prefers to bring freshmen along more slowly. Now if Langford doesn't come, then I think we most likely see a Phinisee/Green backcourt.

Even with how high you are on Phinisee (which I agree with you), I think the best thing that could happen to Phinisee, Hunter, Anderson and Forester is to have guys like Green, McRoberts, and Smith, along with Morgan of course, excel so that the freshmen group can ease into things and be more like role players until they're fully ready.

I think the only place we differ is whether or not Phinisee is ready.   To be truthful; and man crush aside, I think he is more ready now than Yogi was when he got here.

Maybe so, but RP will not have the firepower of Cody, Hulls, VO, and Watford to compensate for his learning curve.

Can't wait to find out!

I would counter with "if we get Langford, he will."  Between Langford, Morgan, Smith (who I think will be terrific), Green, and others....he may not have the specific positions; but he'll have what he needs.

I can't either.   I love what I see and more than that, love the buy in from the players.

I tried posting this last night but had problems on the app.

If Green builds upon his recent plays and makes a leap over the summer he'll most likely start next season. Phinisee will get plenty of run but I think, and hope, he's brought along slowly. This means Green is running them team efficiently.

If we land Langford I don't think there's a question if he starts, just how many minutes he'll get. Durham and Anderson will get the rest of those minutes.

The other wing position should be interesting. Early in the season I could see McBob starting and hope Hunter is brought along slowly too. Smith needs to work on his handles and shot to get more time on the wing.

Morgan will get most of his time at the 4 (I hope). Smith will get some run here too. Thompson and Moore might also get some time if their defense is up to par. I hope both are brought along slowly.

The 5 is the most important position of need to me. Davis should be back but needs to increase his foot speed to be better on defense. I don't think we can be a top tier team with Morgan at the 5. He's been fantastic this season but I don't think it's sustainable at the level I want IU. Forrester, Moore, and Thompson could get some run at the 5.

My breakdown of minutes by %.

PG: Green/Phinisee/Durham 60-30-10
SG: Langford/Green/Durham/Anderson 75-10-10-5
SF: McBob/Smith/Hunter 50-30-20
PF: Morgan/Smith/Thompson/Moore 50-30-10-10
C: Davis/Morgan/Forrester 60-30-10

Something like that. I would really like to add a grad transfer Big that can protect the rim but has the foot speed to get out to shooters.

I don't think we really differ, I just don't live in Indiana so I'm not plugged into who is ready/isn't, so typically lean toward the veteran. I'll definitely take your word for it, and am excited to see Phinisee next year.
