IU versus Duke Pre-game Thread

Recommended Posts

I think we start off hot and get the crowd into it, possibly going into halftime with a lead. Second half I expect Duke to come out and play much better, beating us by 10 points or more.

Their frontcourt is going to destroy us, even if Davis doesn’t get in foul trouble. They have 2 of the best rebounders in the country in Bagley and Carter to go along with Delaurier who holds his own.

I want IU to win obviously, but I’m also realistic. Duke has been tested much more than us. Assembly Hall will definitely be a factor, but we just don’t have the talent to compete for a full 40 minutes.

I will say this. I am a Freshman here at Indiana and there is a lot of buzz around this game. Students are really excited. I know me and my friends are lining up in the GA line around 10 am tomorrow. Should be a fun one and i expect the Hal to be rocking. But in the end I agree with VO5. Indiana will lead or be within 5 at halftime. May even go up by 10 plus like Florida did. But Duke will end up just being too strong.

Very good to hear there is a lot of buzz. We need to have AH jumping.

Get in line earlier. I got in line for the UNC game back when we had Cody and Vic around 7am and still was 15 rows up in the student section. And bring snacks. Very jealous!

I expect a fun game but I just don't think we have the 3 pt shooting this year to pull off the upset.  In years past we've had guys like JBJ and Yogi who could light you up from outside and were pivotal in big games like this.  We need RJ, Newkirk, and Green to get hot from outside.  We aren't going to score down low.

I watched almost all of the Duke/MSU game and the only reason MSU was in it was because Bridges and Jackson made some long threes (side note: both of their shooting forms are atrocious). Duke has incredible size, talent, and experience but the Hall can be a daunting place for anyone.

Just fight, show some grit, do not stand down, and play smart. I can accept any score as long as we leave it all out there.

This could have been a post from December 2011 prior to the incredible IU-UK game.  Kentucky had what seemed to be an unbeatable roster that included four 1st round draft picks (Jones, Kidd-Gilchrest, Teague and Davis) and two 2nd round picks (Lamb and Miller), along with Wiltjer.  IU had their two eventual first rounders in Zeller and Oladipo , along with Hulls and Watford, but also had Verdell Jones as the staring point guard , with the top three off the bench being Pritchard, Sheehey and ..........wait for it.......Danny Moore.  This game was as big a mismatch as the game tomorrow with Duke, perhaps even more so because of the lack of depth in 2011, and coaching.

Don't stop believin' (in my best Steve Perry voice)

They had Tarrence Jones as well who went in the first round I believe. The Hall got to him and he had a terrible game

For the home court to have an impact we will have to give the crowd something to be excited about. If Duke jumps out to a sizable lead early, the crowd will get quiet in a hurry. A good start is absolutely imperative.

Luckily for IU, Duke hasn’t started out well for the last 3 games.

Hopefully IU can D-up on that lunatic Grayson Allen to prevent him from dropping 40. I don't care if they have to foul him, body him, hand check, whatever gets him out of his mind and crying so that he has one of his 3-20 nights from the field.

At the same time, Davis, Morgan, and McSwain have got to get position down low and draw some fouls on Bagley and Carter.. Do both of those things, as well as limit turnovers and hit some 3's, and I could see an IU victory. If not, I think it'll be a long night for Hoosier fans.
