Corruption in College Basketball

Really seems like the coaches knew... Why was it such a surprise? And why did the NCAA do nothing?

Because the NCAA makes 80% (?) of their annual income from the NCAA tourney. If they actually could police their member institutions they would be biting the hand that feeds them. I have little doubt we'll see the NCAA either go away as the governing body or some major reform. They have little ability to enforce their own rules.

Can't help but wonder about those Garland CB flips.

Coincidence? Probs.

Someone hear some rumblings? Hmm.

I wonder if this Romeo to KU has legs and this raises IUs stock for a lead guard (Garland).

Duke being cancelled is the impetus of the CB changes but then is IU just a guess or an informed guess.

I am finding it hard to think we get both of these guys. I'm starting to believe with near full confidence we get 1 of them.

I could see it, but this investigation began in 2015. The undercover activity and recording authority probably not until 2016.

Kenny Johnson left IUBB in April of 2014.

Doesn't mean that Kenny isn't in big trouble, but from a  statutory charging standpoint, his time with IUBB is probably off-limits. Could he tell a cooperation narrative of payments to Vonleh, Stan, or Troy from way back when? I guess so, but even that might never see the light of day. And that's if he was charged, pled, cooperated, and that unrecorded, historical narrative was released, which it probably wouldn't be.

If we paid to get Stan......we will become the laughing stock of the cheater world.

I think anyone who is a fan of a big-time college basketball program has to be a little uneasy tonight. These kids all play against and know each other. It's hard for me to believe that they aren't pretty wired into what is going on. The more prevalent the cheating is, the easier it is to get caught up in it. It's the old "everyone is doing it so why not" argument. I have no reason to believe that Coach Miller is involved, but I admit I feel a little concerned.

Ehh, I feel fine. I'm not worried about Archie because he was at Dayton while this was all going down. I had already assumed that these kinds of things were going on in big time college basketball so it isn't shocking to me to see that's it's true. I'm just surprised it was finally exposed.

I have no doubt it is widespread. Some are obvious. Some not so much. If we all think basketball is bad, I bet some would drop over dead for college football. Follow the money...

Yeah, I mean when you have 5* recruits signing to play for a coach and university that hasn't done much... when you people talk about dollar amounts for certain recruits and it's the same school over and over. When players are more interested in going to find the money man after a national title than celebrating with their teammates.

CFB would be an absolute nightmare for the NCAA. They couldn't even handle CBB.

While I may agree with you based on, mostly, "feel" what factually are you bringing with that? UNC, DUKE, AZ- all "rival" brands who play the game.

From the indictment: "University-4 is a public research university located in Arizona."

HS Basketball is alive and well in my neck of the woods.

Oh it is here also. The loyalty of playing for your school has diminished compared to back in the day. I remember playing for Municipal Gardens was huge back then. Plus, recruits are committing to schools based on shoe companies.

If course I come from a small town that hasn't had any big time college players. But a very successful program. One of the best class 2A programs in Illinois History.

My daughter-in-law teaches at a small school in Illinois. Have watched a few games out there, and you're right. Very competitive and competitive. Love watching kids play ball that put their heart and soul into it.
