I will argue it until the day I die but Cal has failed miserably at UK. With the recruits hes brought in there is no excuse to only have one championship.

Case in point, Cal coached one of the best teams I've ever seen (I feel sick for saying that) to defeat against Wisconsin. To me, that loss was completely on him.

I think "failed miserably" is a bit much, and I've often felt IU fans who say this are projecting their insecurities onto another program that wins more than we do.

I will agree that they could easily have more than one banner by now, but if we had their results the past nine years (potential recruiting violations aside), I sure wouldn't be calling it a failure.

I'm so sick of hearing about feelings and insecurities. That crap got old a long time ago.

Yes you would and so would most of the fanbase. When you have an elite level of talent like they have/had, you have a certain level of expectations and they have not lived up to it. I cant stand UK but they should easily be sitting on atleast 3 championships under Cal.

Definitely proves the value of upper class men. The season everyone was worried they would go undefeated and didn’t was a failure. They will have had at least one NIT team, and bowed out in the first round. This team was flawed from the beginning which is as much of a failure as them all when this was/is your model. Next year they let Duke get 1, 2, and 3. Failure. I can only think of two years I wouldn’t call a failure. The year they won the title, and their first. It set them up for this run. Fair or unfair they played the game to stack the deck and they could only get it done once. I agree.

I would argue a great coach, with that talent, has three titles by now. I don't think a good coach pushes his guys off to the NBA when they're not ready either.

There are a few drawbacks to that style of program. 1) the recruiting is questionable at best. If they get caught, again, they should get the death penalty. 2) the players don't always buy in. They're there for one reason only. 3) they're young. They rarely half a "dog" (is it okay to say dog instead of alpha dog?) on the team.

In my opinion, that's led to some great seasons but they've fallen short on some of the greatest teams money could buy.

Well cal does not have to worry about getting caught . As far as the ncaa is concerned Kentucky is full of choir boys.

I've had a bunch of time to visit some of the fan sites of a couple of the schools named in the yahoo release, namely UK and KU. There is shockingly a dearth of information compared to on this site. It seems like the fan bases are deluded by thinking that Cal and Self couldn't be involved. Others are dismissive of the issues, saying things like "Well, it's possible (or probable) that the coaches knew nothing about any of this". Really?
I will say, however, that there are a few fans who seem to genuinely nervous about all this. One UK can even spoke the unmentionable...if Calipari is involved he needs to go (gasp!).
Makes we wonder if they are adopting the approach that 1) if we don't talk about it, it will go away...or 2) we are (insert school name here) and the NCAA needs us so we will come out smelling like roses and (insert other school name here) will be exposed as the cheaters and frauds they are.
Man, this topic hit the news cycle at the perfect time for me and my uptick in sitton' around free time!

It's pUKe, I wouldn't be surprised if they consider the death penalty a badge of honor since they've received/narrowly avoided a couple of them.  That program has had a "win at all costs" mentality for as long as it's existed.

And thanks for the welcome! Been lurking for awhile. Enough to read the entire 4000+ post Romeo thread and just about everything else. You guys are some knowledgeable fans. I've been enjoying every nugget.

Welcome aboard! Come for a Romeo discussion and learn about Bloomington nightlife, Vanderbilt's court, crowd, fans (lack thereof), and oodles of info regarding the shady underbelly that is NCAA BB recruiting.

The fact they have narrowly skirted it a few times is exactly why I was surprised to see any of them obviously worried or mentioning Cal being gone. I would think they would be brazen at this point and the fan base would be thumbing their collective nose at the whole investigation. It's striking accord with them more than I'm sure they're willing to admit.
Funny, as I'm typing this the Kentucky Headhunters came on the radio....

You're talking about pUKe fans, normal reasoning and logic doesn't apply.  They received one and skirted a second, they've never cared much about being filthy.

I hate the guy but he is coaching freshman, admittedly very talented but only caring about the NBA, and they have reached the elite 8 six of his eight years and have made the final four 3/8 years.  That is more than we have done in what....30 years!!!
